Help - anyone got the cam and crank locking tools for the 1.2 AWY

Featured Replies

And you live near skipton and would be prepared to lend them to a complete stranger!

Just trying to do the job on a budget.

Thanks for looking

Well Iv'e measured up what i think the tools should look like and my dad has dusted off his lathe to make them - fingers crossed I've got them right!

If anyone has the genuine tools, would be still great to borrow them.

There are so many reviews on ebay saying that the tools dont fit and it looks like you have to pay £60 to get a decent set, which for one use is dear!

For what its worth buy the set, somebody will buy them off you after you are done if you don't want to keep them.

Without a tool to copy from how are you planning on reproducing them accurately?

Hmm, I may be able to help a little with measurement of the crank tool.

Way back when, a member local to me in Oxfordshire had his 6-valve in bits for similar reasons. He'd bought the cam/crank tools but didn't have a torque wrench.

So I lent him my torque wrench, and after the fact he lent me the tools so I could copy them.  I made the crank tool without too much difficulty but the cam tool(s) were more of a fiddle. Being a gent, he said to keep the 12-valve specific cam tools and just return the crank and cam tool appropriate to his engine. That way we both had the sets appropriate to our engines.

So I have a home-made crank locking tool...somewhere...that I could measure up for you.

Off out to my shed now, I may be some time. :D

Almost miraculously, I found them quite easily.

12-valve cam tools, not relevant to you. can't remember what the 6-valve one looks like.

Dims of crank tool (I suspect the nearly 10mm one was supposed to be actually 10mm, don't remember)

End view of 'back end piece', 20mm x 40 with rounded ends:

Haven't ever inserted this so I can't be 100% sure it'll fit, but the round numbers seem reassuring.  Not sure what the local guy spent on his set, but he didn't mention any difficulties with them.  They have come down to <£20 for the low end on ebay now, which is alarmingly cheap.

They look very similar to the 6v tools. Fingers crossed mine fit.

I don't have the locking tools but if you need a valve spring compressor I have one you can borrow and I am not that far away
