Coolant temperature sensor ?

Featured Replies

Another small issue possibly. Vrs pd 170 really lumpy idle first start of the day. Clears after maybe 10 to 20 seconds. Also, sometimes takes a couple of goes to start. Now i was going down the CTS route but yesterday noticed something else strange. My son wanted picked up from work so set off from home car warms up quite quickly gets up to temp as normal but when i got to my sons work he was running a little late so i just sat in the car and left it running. Car sat at idle maybe 5 to 10 minutes then noticed the temp gauge drop from just under 90 to half that. It moved up and down a little bit but when i started driving again the temp went back to 90. So now I'm thinking thermostat? Any clues anyone.

The thermostat wouldn't cause lumpy running when first started so the CTS may be the problem unless there is another issue. I would recommend a genuine one though to ensure a quality part.

If its a diesel then sat idling with the heater on will cool off the engine quite quickly, especially with a high fan speed

06A919501A is this the right part number for the Vrs pd 170 2007 ?

I had the same issue with the old 54 plate 1.9PD, where the temperature gauge would suddenly drop to minimum at random. It would stay there for a few minutes, then suddenly jump back to exactly where it should be. I had the temperature sender unit replaced when the cambelt was last done, a 2 minute job to change. Simply got a plastic C clip holding the sender unit into a hose above the clutch housing. Pill the clip out, pull the sender unit out, put the new one in, and push the clip home.

From memory, the sender unit I got from ebay was only about £7 off ebay, and the new sender unit solved the issue completely.

Is the temperature sender unit you mention the same as the coolant temperature sensor? It's what I'm suspecting right now.

According to an ebay listing I'm watching this part number is the correct part for the pd 170 vrs.

Thanks ever so much Mike yes that is some great info. The ebay listing in your link that is a genuine CTS? Like you've said that is a bargain. In fact it's a lot cheaper than buying from TPS or Skoda hence why i ask?
