Panoramic roof?

Featured Replies

I am thinking of buying a Rapid Spaceback and have a few questions on the panoramic roof.

Is it a problem in the summer under direct sunlight or in winter in frosty mornings?

How is the interior of the roof, is it more like a a curtain or is it blinds that you manually close and do they do a good job in blocking direct sunlight on a hot day?

So far I only found this photo, but not sure if it's correct http://cdn2.autoexpress.co.uk/sites/autoexpressuk/files/styles/gallery_adv/public/5/19//skoda_rapid_spaceback_roof.jpg?itok=sstzmeMx

Thanks for any help!

Had a glass roof Spaceback for two years and miss having this feature having changed to a notchback Toledo/Rapid clone.

Did not have any issues myself with the changing seasons and I cannot ever remember closing the blinds, which are manual; note you can not close the rear half from the front seats.

The glass is tinted and the blinds can be closed in strong sunlight or on cold mornings. I have had no problems with condensation and rather like the feature

Ditto the above comments. We currently have a spaceback with the panoramic roof. I have to say that the blinds stay closed most of the time - laziness on my part most probably! We've never had any issue with strong sunlight in summer, nor do we recall any issue with condensation in the winter months. Overall, though, I have to say that the thing which most impresses me about the dark glass roof is how it sets off the corrida red paintwork. Now if I could only persuade myself to buy some Savio or Ray alloys, the car would look something like the one in the original brochure.

Not had any issues with heat or cold.  The blinds on ours have been open from day one and never been closed since... forgot it even had a cover until reading this.

Its a manual cover, well 2 in fact which when closed the join meets in the middle.

If you want any photos, video etc or the roof, more than happy to supply over the weekend

In the meantime see this thread.,

I had a Roomster with a panoramic roof for six years prior to getting my Toledo.  The roof was great, it was normally open but the blinds do a good job of knocking the worst of the glare off on a really bright day.  No problem in the winter.  It certainly made the interior light and airy, I miss having it.

Thanks everyone, panoramic roof it is then!

My next 'problem' is the colour: racy blue or candy white (I like both!) and should I go with black alloys for either colour?

I think if going white, you should look at Moon white over the candy... The candy white is a bit off white, like a cream.

The Moon white looks the business with the met flake

Yeah that's the thing I tend to prefer more creamy white cars than cool white, but I am not sure how the Rapid looks.

White cars hold their value best according to current fashion, so buy the non metallic and save now as well as when you get to selling time.

I love the race blue, but I don't know how long it will be in vogue.

There are pictures of both blue and white in the Rapid pictures thread.

Thanks, some nice pics there.

I think I'll go with Candy White and the 17" Savoy wheels.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but do the 17" Savoy wheels compromise the ride comfort too much?

we have the 17 inch rims on our se sport., the ride is fine and not harsh I find.

Never driven one with smaller wheels so can't compare but as it's on standard suspension there's plenty of movement

The tyre choice on 17's makes all the difference, as does whether you have the little TSI motor or the TDI lump over the front wheels.

The ride and steering have both improved a lot since the 2012/13 cars though.

I drove possibly the worst combination, a '13 TDI on 17 inch OEM Dunlop Sportmaxx and it was very poor - it rode worse than the £500 quid Proton I'd arrived at the dealer in.

So the newer models ride fairly well, a bit jiggly on 17's on bumpy roads, but see what the OEM tyres are and go to tyrereviews.co.uk to see which is best.

I know most on 17's used to come from the factory on Dunlop SP Sportmaxx (scored 66%) or Conti PremiumContact2 (scored 72%), although there were some on Bridgestone.

If you know what the factory are putting on, I guess you could spec your choice if ordering new?

You might want to check your insurance cover to see if your glass cover includes this - could be expensive!

Having had odd dents in the roof over the years caused by things appearing off bridges as I go underneath, I avoided this style of roof when I bought my Spaceback, even though I could have got one for less money - I felt enough was enough when we got covered in a windscreens worth of glass a few years ago, let alone a whole roof's worth!

I asked my insurer namely the Coop and they said windscreen insurance covers it
