Octavia L&K or Superb, what would you do

Featured Replies

My Wifes car is used for work, Its just turned 100000 miles in just under 3 years & at the end of Feb when its 3 years old we will start looking for a replacement.

The current car is an Octy 110 tdi L&K estate, its been a brilliant car so naturally we looked at getting the same but yesterday we suddenly had second thoughts.

The new L&K has been down specced, OK you still get the leather & you now get memory seats, we never adjust the seat so thats a (non needed luxury) BUT you now have to pay extra for Xenons, Extra for a sun roof & extra for some decent looking wheels, the old L&K had distinctive wheels, the new one is the same as the Elegance & they are IMO BLAND!

There apear to be a lot of very low mileage Superb TDi's at the dealers with all the toys we need + sat Nav & several other goodies & at very reduced prices, The run out on the Superb prior to the new model will start I guess in a few months so specs are likely to go up or prices will come down. As we tend to pile the miles on the car running costs are more of a concern than depreciation as whatever we get will be worth very little in 3 years time so 2 real questions.

Is a Superb 2.0 Diesel much more expensive to run than the Equivalent Octy & What would other people do

Superb.

They only do a 1.9 130 or 2.5 V6 160 bhp I think

According to the Skoda web site, they also offer the 2.0 TDI (140bhp) now as well. :D

Having done a lot of miles in a Suprerb they are a great car but are getting a bit long in the tooth - the interior isn't as high quality as the Octy II. It's a fantastic cruiser though so if you do lots of motorway miles you can't beat it - avoid twisties though!

Have a look and a drive in both and see which you prefer.

Presumably although this is for business you are paying for it. I always used to have a company car until I became self employed about 8 years ago. At that point I realised just how much of a premium my employers had been paying to supply me with a brand new car. I found the wonderful world of low mileage almost new cars at reduced prices!

TBH the car looses 17.5% (the VAT) as soon as you drive it out the showroom, and most loose as much in the first year as they do in the next two. 3 year warranties make it possible to buy a 1 year old car, keep it for 2 and still have the protection of the warranty. Having said that the 3rd year on Skodas is limited to 60k miles so with your milegae you may not be able to use it.

I have a 2.5 Elegance Superb that I bought at 18 months old (at 11k miles) and I have not regretted it for one minute. I would go for a nearly new (maybe ex demo) Superb. They really do look and feel like a quality limousine and the room is just amazing. As you have seen they also have lots of toys and other goodies. They don't do estates but the newer ones (early 2005 on) have lockable folding rear seats

Stuart, go for the Superb.

Yes Skoda now put the 140 bhp in the Superb but I believe that comes at the expense of the sun roof being standard.

So far weve tried the Octy & were somewhat disapointed by the build quality, it had more rattles than our current car, I trust that was a bad one

I understand you can borrow a superb for 24 hours so we might try that next

Superb is great fun cheap and very well specified .....dont be scared of it chuck it about you'll be surprised just how well it does handle............only a minor problem when parking it does need a WHOLE parking space to itself  .

1.9 tdi pd goes very well and 50 + mpg ....with amd one click it goes very very well and does 50+ mpg......brilliant long distance cruiser and it's not too bad around town.....quiet, comfortable and cheap ....insurance isn't bad either group 10a what the a stands for I don't know :D

Superb is Superb. Go for it. A real class car
