Fabia vrs thermostst

Featured Replies

Morning all . Is it possible to change the thermostat in my vrs asz code with out moving the alternator ? Also do all asz stats fit ??

Regards Tony

Yeah I changed one on Saturday, awkward but takes about 10 minutes. A magnet will help.

Did mine at the weekend and it was easier than anticipated, just need a 10mm socket and some different length extensions, no alternator removal needed.

I used a genuine replacement as I had read about issues with after market ones failing soon after fitting, only down side to that is the cost!

Now when driving to work its like being in a sauna

Did you drain the rad 1st or just let the coolant spill out ?? Good news on the heater duck . Mine is terrible . Also mpg has dropped so hopping it may get better when running at right temp ...

Very good advice. While there are quality aftermarket components out there there is also a lot of rubbish so at least getting one from the dealer you have the best chance of getting one that will last.

No real need to drain it, just swap the thermostat over and replace the lost coolant with the appropriate mix of antifreeze and water.

Thank you . I will do it the weekend . Any one know the part number for the stat (genuine)

Saves me a trip to the dealer as there isn't one local to me

I drained the coolant (there is a simple drain plug on the bottom radiator hose outlet), I caught the majority of the coolant in a bucket and re-used it, be warned though, even draining from the bottom hose it still lost a lot of water from the engine block when I pulled the thermostat out, about 50% of that I caught in the bucket the rest went on the floor.

Thermostat part No = 044121113

Price from TPS = £26.60

'O' Ring part No = 038121119B

Price from TPS = £3.43

Coolant part No = SG013A8JM1

Skoda price = £11.58

^ Great info.

The only thing I'd add is be careful not to damage/drop/lose either of the screws/bolts that hold the plastic housing on, as they're an M7 thread which you're not going to find at your average factors on a Saturday morning.  Part number is N 90945002 if you wanted to order a spare or two just in case.

That thermostat price looks a little high? I got one recently via here for £17 + VAT. I make that £20.40?  Not sure if I got a chunk of discount.

Hi Wino, yes I think I paid over the odds a little but had a free couple of hours and decided last minute to change it, TPS is the only place I could find that had it in stock (Skoda and VW dealer did not).

Glad I did as the coolant temp is now running 20 degrees hotter than it was before and the heater is a furnace.

Another job to add to my list on Sunday :o temp was fine until the cold weather started. Max I get is 75c and thats spending 30 mins on the motorway. Only reaches 90c if i crawl in traffic.

Brysoni232 - that's how I realised mine was faulty, I was getting 72/73c at most and when coasting down a hill it would drop to 67/68c.

Now it sits at 87-90c and does not go under 87c when coasting down hill.

I have an ultraguage in the car which is very handy for spotting these kind of faults, it also identified when the alternator load sensing wire was corroded and broken before I had a flat battery.

I just got 3 X 1.5l bottles of the G13 (TPS Part No GA13A8JM1) for £5.95 a bottle. £21.42 with the Chancellors cut.
