TIME TO RETURN MY CITIGO - OR NOT...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just less than a year until I have to return my Black Edition Citigo OR pay the final payment and keep it. I'll need to way up the pros and cons. Has anyone else had this same dilemma? If you hand the car back over, do you get anything for it? Money off another car for example. Any thoughts?

GreyBear.

if you hand the car back you will get nothing, and if over the agreed mileage in the PCP agreement you COULD be charged the excess mileage

what you do depends on if you end up with any equity in the car at the end, or if like some on here it seems the GFV of the vehicle was optimistic to put it mildly so cheapest option is to hand it back

if part ex'ing dealers will usually try and do something for you, the old "we buy any car" will give you an idea of the value of the car (and get you spammed with emails about making sure you get a good price etc), and there is an online form to get a settlement figure with agreement number. and a few other details online to see what value you have in the car or not as the case may be

auto trader also can give you a price using CAP (one of the systems used by the trade) for about £3-£5 tailored to your car and mileage etc, I have used that before when I had a car written off to argue with the insurance company

Also worth considering is whether you would be taking out a loan to pay off the final payment and keep the current car.....

What I'm getting at is that you could be paying the same per month for a loan to keep the current car as you would if you took out a new PCP deal on another car but would obviously also have to start paying for any repair work that needed doing to the car rather than the new car having a warranty and roadside assistance etc.....

Initially the Mrs was thinking of keeping her Colour Edition in three years but is now leaning towards looking for a similar deal to what she just got, (£123 deposit and £120 per month), and giving this one back.

£123 deposit? I think my initial deposit was around £3000.

Yeah the dealer's offer on the Citigo Colour Edition was officially £400 deposit and £130 per month for 42 months with 6,000 miles pa. We saw a deal at Simpsons in Preston for the same car which was £123 deposit and £123 per month for 42 months with 5,000 miles pa.

The dealer we bought from matched the Simpsons deal and when I asked about changing the annual mileage they said no problem but it will change the monthly payments slightly... They put it in at 8,000 miles pa and the system came back with monthly payments of £120 for 42 months!!!!!

We didn't argue with that deal at all. :)

It depends when you look around as to how good the deals are..... I've found these sorts of prices will be pretty limited to the March and September new reg periods.

Might be worth trying to change it earlier as from next April the road tax will be £140 on these cars (new ones).

Hi Grey Bear.

Was (earlier this month) faced with the same dilemma myself.    PCP isn't up until June, but I was entertaining idle (very idle) thoughts about what I would do when "Der Tag" came.    Was always drawn to another Citigo, as our current one (75 PS, SE-L Greentech) fitted our motoring requirements superbly.    I was aware that the previous PCP deal (zero interest: + Sat Nav  & a £500 fuel voucher) was not going to be repeated, & that the current PCP interest is around 5% - plus I was going to have to shell out for another SatNav, and the new RFL of £120, and forego listening to my CD's.  However, one thing that I was not  prepared to do, was to buy the car outright - even though it's never given any cause for concern whatsoever - after 3 years, there's the MOT due: a much more expensive Service, and probably time for new brakes & new tyres - not to mention whatever else may be wearing out?

As it turned out, my local Stealer contacted me in early Jan to say that there was a £1,500 "sweetener" from Skoda, if I bought another car from them, so I trundled in to see them.     Trade in price (now what a surprise) matched exactly  the outstanding PCP debt, but I did manage to screw around another £1,000 by way of discounts & "goodies" from them - so £2,500 off, in all, and I opted for the absolute lowest deposit.     Recently, there's been some control over the GFV, as they now seem to be much lower - which means (hopefully) more of a gap between the GFV & the value of the car after the PCP ends?

So, I bought another SE-L (take delivery on 1 Feb), but the 60PS this time, as unless one goes well north of 4000 RPM, there's simply no benefit, and as the gearing is higher on the 60PS, the economy is a tad better.   Having had a look at the noo Tonka Toy when I went in to complete the paperwork earlier this week (I think that the Salesman would have literally wet himself with sheer frustration if I hadn't) the car did seem better (define "better"?) than the current model.    The bog-standard larger Alloys looked good (there's no need for splashing out on the enhanced & expensive other ones): the Dash seemed to have been made more attractive, & the seats seemed to be slightly more up market, and rear parking sensors are now fitted.     Just how good the new headlights are (about the 1st thing that I did with my current one, was to invest in Philips Xtreme Vision bulbs, and they really did improve the lighting aspect - with the original ones, it was like night driving with just 2 stumps of candles) but time will tell - if they're as crap as the previous ones, I'm sure that there'll be better bulbs out there "somewhere".

Hokay,   I'm shelling out more Moulah for the revised RFL, (but that's been balanced out by the Skoda inducement) & I can lash out on a new Sat Nav for around the £120+ mark but get one that I fancy, rather than having to "do" with what came with the car.     It was bucketing down with rain when I had my (cursory) look at the car, but I did notice that Continental Eco tyres were fitted - what version of them, I couldn't quite make out, but at the cost of a few more quid, I can always replace them with either Goodyear 4 Seasons (as I did with the current car - & never regretted the outlay), or Nokian Weatherproofs.  PCP payment has about doubled, but I was going to have to get another car one way or another anyway.

So, hope that this helps with your deliberations.    To me, & no matter how "good" the car is, there are but 2 options at the end of a PCP - hand the car back & go elsewhere, or trade it in, & take whatever "knock" comes with it.   Best of luck, and please keep everyone informed.
