Turbo Dynamics MD345

Featured Replies

Yep I've gone for it - ordered it :)

It's basically a Hi-flow GT17 compressor wheel, cnc machined compressor houising, 360 degree thrust bearing, cut back turbine blades, lightening of turbine wheel for faster 'spool up', modified V.N.T. housing, uprated turbine seals. Other 'blueprinting' modifications' APPROX 220-240 BHP

Now I dunno if I'll get anywhere near those figures but it's been ordered. It's a brand new unit as they dont take the KKK unit as an exchange one. As it happens I want to keep the standard one in my loft to be able to revert back to standard.

Cost-wise it's basically 1100 quid inc VAT & delivery. It's gonna hurt me for a bit, that's for sure :(

Sorting out the insurance quote at the moment and also, still looking to fit all this gear to my car. No doubt it will be pretty awesome when all the stuff is fitted :) :)

Sounds like a lot of money (e.g. turbo, injectors, remap, labour, etc..) to acheive 220-240bhp.

Sounds good where did you get it from?

http://www.turbodynamics.co.uk :)

I'm not gonna do injectors & no doubt I'll be a fair bit below that kinda power (IMHO of course ;) ) - but it should help achieve a stable amount of extra oomph :D

on a fabia>?

With the FMIC I'd say you'd be very close to me. Your turbo sounds like a modified VNT17, whereas mine is a vnt20 hybrid - not sure on the differences. :)

Are you going to vent the FMIC better? ;) I'll pop up with my stanley knife. :D

on a fabia>?

Yes.

Basically the same amount of money it would take to get an Octavia to 280bhp the first step is always the easiest (40-50bhp)

That amount on a 1.8T would get you 350bhp+

I've got the stuff in my sig 'ready to be fitted' - Injector wise I'm not going to do that, can't be bothered (perhaps yet :P )

It is DEFINITELY and I mean that very much ;) NOT a cost effective thing to mod a car by this much. The main reason it's ending up this way is coz of the following:

* my current insurer (Zurich) wont accept a remap/chip (their terminology, I know it's a remap). They knew/know about everything else (except rear ARB) and it was added to the policy at a smallish premium. Apart from the PD160 intake + green filter & Seat Strut, nothing else has been fitted at this point.

* New insurer will end up quoting for hybrid and remap etc, all the gear.

The way it's working out it's less hassle to just go for this in one big hit, most of this has already been paid for (i.e. not on credit) except for the hybrid. Remap dosh has been saved up ready for CC2.

It's also definitely diminishing returns but a nice combination of toys. IMHO an Octy vRS with a few tweaks etc would be a better start from an all-out performance-for-your-pound point of view, ditto for the Cupra R.

Thing is - I started off with the standard vRS, I'm happy with a lot of aspects of the car anyway, and I guess I'm getting a little carried away ;) The labour side of things - it's cheaper to do it all in one hit as a lot of the parts are related/coupled.

Will still be a nice bit of fun though, and it will allow me to drive in 'normal' ways too during my general commute :)

will just the turbo actually gain much? not knocking what your doing at all mate as i think its a great idea but will the turbo without the new injectors etc gain much?

when you say full blueflame system is that cat back or proper turbo back system??

also does this turbo bolt onto your current manifold and downpipe? what about oil and water feeds for it or are they provided?

i ask the above as i am replacing my turbo on my octavia(for another standard item) and it needs a new oil line, crush washers and a few bolts and that lot is nearly £75 so there are a few hidden(sort of) costs involved with things like this :)

and if you are planning on getting some new injectors in the future would it not be more worthwhile doing it now anyway otherwise that will be £800 or so for the CC2 down the drain.

wouldn't you need an uprated clutch as well (what torque will you get)?

that would add another £700ish

The turbo wont gain much on its own (same turbo as what I fitted to mine) but it does alter the character of the car and means that in 'X' miles it hasnt tried to wedge the exhaust turbine into the downpipe..lol

The turbo will gain a fair amount, injectors will be near/at their limits though so may not gain as much as theoretically possible.

Will give Sarah/James at JBS a buzz tomorrow, they've gone home for the day (don't blame them :D ) and I'm still @ work :(

Clutch will apparently be ok as long as I dont plant it at low revs. That said I may get that done too, all depending on how much labour & as rightfully pointed out, additional 'little stuff' ends up costing.

Clutch incl fitting was 711 inc VAT at JBS last time I asked for the Sachs one. Will have to ring them and work out if it will hold that kinda torque, I dont currently know what the output(s) will be.

It's annoying when you know people are both right and will cause you to spend even more money  I'm taking it the right way though ;)

It's definitely going to help keep it reliable at higher boosts - and it's a higher-quality item in the first place (apparently, I'm no turbo expert :D )

@Lummox - bit concerned about extra parts etc mentioned by bengie - does that apply in this case? It's a VNT17 based device, in case it makes a diff. Tnx

Dont worry about Bengie, he knows nothing.

The diesel turbo is part of the manifold, and externally the turbo is no different to the std one (by looking at the outside you would be hard pushed to tell the difference) and will be a straight swap.

:finger:;)

just passing my own findings on to another :P

and anyway i do know somethings, for instance i know your dad doesn't know how to connect up a 2 gang dimmer switch :P

You own findings however arent relevant to this vehicle so you are just muddying the waters and causing concern where there is no need.

;)

pfft

@bengie - no worries, it could have been true for sure & I get my info wrong MUCH more often

@lummox - thanks for clearing that up though :D

I've got a feeling the Sachs will be fitted, it should take the power ok.

As for the injectors, if anyone has done those on this site please let me know. I've posted on uk mk ivs . net too, as recommended by someone who's visited there a fair bit, will see what the response(s) are.

It's gonna cost a fairly large sum of dosh though, regardless of how I look at it
