What is adblue and should i have been using it in my 2015 fabia diesel

Featured Replies

Hi, as title, what is adblue? I have never heard of it before, should i have been adding it to my fabia diesel which covered 14,000 miles? Will I need it for my new octavia 1.6 tdi dsg?

AdBlue is a non-toxic liquid that’s colourless in appearance and is a solution of water and urea. To comply with Euro 6, recent diesel-powered cars use SCR technology to inject microscopic quantities of this liquid into the flow of exhaust gases. When the urea and water solution combines with exhaust emissions, it produces nitrogen and oxygen – harmless gases that occur naturally in the environment – by breaking down mono-nitrogen oxides (gases that can be harmful and are found particularly in the fumes from diesel exhausts).

This technology has been used in buses and heavy lorries for a long time, so its effectiveness has been proven and its reliability is better than ever

Found this on a Web search Joe

No you should not have used it in your Fabia as there is no Ad-Blue system or tank for Ad-Blue in your Fabia.

As for a new Octavia, if this is going to be a Face Lift Mk3 Model you will need Ad-Blue if Skoda have this as part of the Emissions / Exhaust system, but there will be a Ad-Blue tank.

Its only for diesels with SCR technology. They are listed as such, for example some of the Superb diesels for example:

SE L Executive 2.0 TDI 190PS SCR

This tech has been in use since about 2007... it still amazes how little is known about it given how its slowly becoming comman place in Cars...

I work in the Commercial Vehicles, and this tech has had its problems.

Im not sure if the car market is doing the same as. Commercials, but with the new Euro Directives truck brands have taken different approaches.

Some like Mercedes and Iveco focused on the Adblue route, while the Likes of MAN/Scania tried to focus on the EGR Route. But as emissions continue to get lower its become clearer manufacteurs are having to try to use EGR and adblue together.

A handy to thing to bare for any using adblue... dont think you have to rely on Fuel Pumps and service stations... check the pricing with a local Commercial vehicle dealer.

And be careful with Car Dealers ive seen Adblue sood at some shocking pricing!!!

Trained to handle Adblue... pull the other one!!!

Well if 'Authorised Repairer Staff', are not trained then that will be a H&S matter.

Advertising Standards Agency as well, we know that the Volkswagen Group never lie.  Knowingly, it was just a liitle boy that did it and ran away.

Its a load of Jargon to look good.

adblue isnt dangerous...

If ylu caperble of filling a car up with petrol, then adblue is simple. Ots trying to justify its expensive pricing

What training were you given?

It makes a lovely mess of some people car interiors when spilt, as seen in various ad-blue posts in the Superb section and else where.

Well we given just a quick presentation. Confirming its purpose, what it was made of, how best to store it.

Dont get me wrong its not plesent stuff.

When it out side a container in the atmosphere it crystallises (which was the riute some early issues with the tech when saw in use in some applications), not nice stuff to get on yourself or car interior. Whilest not as dangerous petrol, i would treat it in the exact same way as petrol.

I.e be very careful and avoid spillage if you do wipe it away asap, would never recomend storing it in your car,
