Regal Autosport

Featured Replies

Hi

Taking the Octy vRS to Regal Autosport (http://www.vag-tuner.com/) today in Sarfampton to see if they can shed some light on what mods were actually done to mine (on the phone they were confident that it would be a remap and not a chip) and to sort out the surging/flat spots I get.

They were pretty confident they could sort it out. "Walk in the park" they said, not arrogantly though, but with a healthy dose of confidence. Fingers crossed. Mine is an animal from 3k in second gear but surges over 4k and is less impressive in 3rd and 4th. Don't want to lose power or the animal 2nd but I'll compromise for smooth pulling through 3rd and 4th with no surging or flat spots.

I chatted to him about the DV and he said don't do it unless/until it is broken - which was nice on the one hand (no hard sell) but a little confusing on the other given the confidence on here about the value of a new DV with uprated bhp... I'll chat to him today some more!

I'll let you know how it goes, hopefully with some RR graphs in due course!

Sean

Fingers crossed, let us know how you get on!

Regal seemed like a nice bunch of peeps when we had a rolling road day down there a few months ago - not heard too much from them since then so make sure you find out what they are up to and report back

Make sure they dont load a golf map to your octavia. It will not work properly.

Given that GIAC is a US company and they dont have Skoda's there....... go figure.

I thought Regal were Vauxhall specialists ??

Apparently they were Vaux specialists but have gotten into VAG in a big way. Paul - thanks that is good feedback - I'll be sure to quiz them on the software.

My plan is to have them RR the current set-up and quiz them on their thoughts for improving the surging. If I don't feel comfortable I'll soak up their thoughts - and get some feedback from you fellas.

Then I'd weigh-up the shorter trip to IP or the much longer trip to Jabbasport...

Sean

Standard dv generally can handle a remap just that the diaphragm used to split....never OEM ones are apparently better now......diaphragm dv react quicker than piston type dvs so better response....apparently

Forge now doing uprated diaphragm dvs...Eliminator I think it's called and can be tuned into your boost levels.

As Dave says be sure to let us know the outcome. I sadly had to bow out of the RR day but I hear it was a good day out.

They were a well respected Vauxhall tuner.

Ok

Deed is done - now have GIAC software running on the Octy -

If you want an intercooler I might have one for sale next week, the pipes on mine apear to be too small for 350 + bhp but it was more than adequate before the Turbo upgrade, was running 250 bhp then (a few other mods as well)

Im in winchester so fairly close, car goes to Jabba on Friday so if you can get to me before then you can see it installed.

With a good map you should be able to get about 220 bhp

call me on 07799 623693 if interested

Good news Sean, glad it feels better, Superchips don't have a great rep as far as chipping the Octy goes so glad Regal have have given you a good map. Make sure you come along to a rolling road day to find out what your figures look like - or even organise one if you fancy down at Regal (just ask Chris im sure he'll do all the hard work :D ) they are always good to meet other owners and we all had a good time down there last time :)

Dave, another one at Regal would be nice, they certainly treated us ok.

Sean, if they can do a day, then put me down for it. Have aslo PM'd you.

:handshke: Hi you all Briskodians

I am the Greek guy that was @ Regal at last year RR day;)

Nice to see that some of you still remember me:)

Sean sorry to miss you i was there the day you called but had to leave the same night on an emergency.

Good to know that the octy is sorted out:thumbup:

Some things about torque:

-Give some time to your engine and ECU to get to know its other again (adapt)

Its like someone that just had a brain surgery and he just wakes up, it takes some time before he can run at full speed;)

-Sometimes when we drive a car we have the impression that its not that fast especially compared to that other one we drove that was spinning its wheels almost instantly after we put the funny pedal to the floor. Then we run those two cars side by side and.... the one that felt slower is actually quicker.

What i really mean is that sometimes we tend to confuse a smooth map with a slow map, which is not neseccarilly true. A map that holds good power at high revs is giving you the impression that is not so agressive or that its not making so much power.

But this is only a misconception. Its far more difficult to make a map that has good power across the full rpm spectrum (using that tiny K03S that is) than to make a map thats killing everyone (your tiny turbo included) but tappers of as the rpm goes up. A K03S can make very good low end torque if you drive it at the limit but unfortunattely you will kill your high rpm power. Like everything else in life its not only black and white its that tiny grey spot that offers the most.

As far as hp figures i have never seen 220bhp with a remapp only in a REAL dyno.

I would say 208 to 212 is a good number to start from. Then get yourself a nice turbo back exhaust coupled with a good 200cpi cat and you are somewhere around 220bhp. After that a good FMIC is crucial.

Hope i helped:)

Nice to meet you all guys again hope i ll make to your next RR day if held at Regals.

PS Have Chris give you a ride on his S3;) :D

Sorry for my bad english

Hi Sharky - we will forgive your bad English as you are new :D

Thanks for your input - it is always good to hear from another tuner. I didn't know Chris had an S3?

Hopefully we will have another RR day and see you soon! You will have to bring some of those shiny manifolds over with you next time hmmmm :D

Hi Sharky

Thanks very much for your words of wisdom - guess that Chris mentioned you were popular!

On the issue of the car seeming less torquey but in fact having a smooth map, I was reaching this conclusion myself. I was also of the opinion that a smooth map was more important than a possibly torqueier but jittery, surging map.

Thanks again

Sean

If we do have RR day at Regal again you can put me down for it, good day, nice people

Sharky,

You are very, very welcome here and it was great to meet you at the RR day at Regal, if you do come again, please promise you leave that lap top behind, looking at the VAG tuning parts you had on there could do serious damage to our bank balance.............................................LOL

If we do have RR day at Regal again you can put me down for it, good day, nice people

Perhaps we could make it another southern run then - I'd be in and I'm sure Gerry would make the trip.

Already told Sean that I will make the trip. good excuse to drop SWMBO in at her dads for the day in Winchester and score some brownie points, god knows I need them recently..............................LOL

I'll have a chat with Chris when I go back for the RR next week - I'll tell him the SEAT mob might be interested also - as suggested by Gerry.

Be rude not to, as they invited us last time to their day there.

Thanks for the welcome guys

Dave manifolds are allready at Chris place:D

Beretta would you mind if instead of the laptop i leave the parts back when i go?:D
