Touch screen

Featured Replies

Recently with the weather getting colder my monte carlo head unit touch screen doesn't work. It sticks on whichever radio station it chooses and won't let me change it. A few times after the car has warmed up and also turning the stereo off and on it works again. Anyone else having these issues ?

I had it one morning a couple of weeks ago, hasn't happened since though so not sure what happened.

What was weird was it would sort of let me swipe across screens but I couldn't tap on anything.

I can't even do that. There is no reaction when touching the screen.

Have you tried using a plastic stylus? This may or may not work depending on the touchscreen  technology, I find on my tablet that the stylus can work better than my finger sometimes, so do wonder if either skin temperature or moisture levels affect some touch screen technologies more than others.

It's worth a try ,cheers

Started the car this morning and screen frozen again. Mobile won't even connect. Starting to get frustrating.

I have an ongoing mobile connection problem (as do others) doesn't work properly no matter what weather!. Adding to this, yes - here i've had 2 nights of proper frost and on both occasions until my interior is warm it doesn't like me doing anything - recognizing the sd card for media is a no go and the radio is also a difficult task to execute, just stays on whatever i was listening to last.

sometimes it will have a total brain-fart and reboot itself then it works fine.

another design flaw?

Not a design flaw but a faulty head unit. Dealer will replace it under warranty.

Also useful to know that these aren't touch screens as such, so pushing or tapping harder wont work.

There are proximity sensors in the edge of the screen surround that detect where your finger is (i.e. over which virtual button).

Make sure your screens are clean of grease and dirt and dust around the edges and they may work better.

Nope, they're capacitive, just like a smartphone. The proximity thing is on the more upmarket versions, as in the Octavia and Superb, or more obviously the VWs. They have a black strip under the screen which senses your hand approaching, and pop up the buttons along the lower edge which are permanently there on the Fabia's Bolero unit.

However, pushing or tapping harder still wouldn't really work! Capacitive screens are very sensitive, and they don't require pressure to activate- instead they need a nice wet finger. This is why they don't work with gloves either! In fact, the manual states that it can only be operated by a finger, and that you should not apply pressure.

I havent even a clue what is what, but I can tap the car screen with gloves on - and make it work - which I cant on the smartphone screen.

Cold doesnt affect either. So I guess youve got a fault screen.

The bolero in our Fabia iii has misbehaved twice now - months apart: a really good frost after a damp day seems to spanner the bolero until the car warms up inside.

(car outside, and frozen silly - about 10 minutes of de-icer/scraper/heater and blower on full wick before setting off).

Stuck on radio 2, no control from the touch screen, no obvious control from the steering wheel buttons either.

At the moment I'm considering it _another_ unexpected disappointment, along with:

the condensation in the bottom of the headlight units the other day (which did disappear during the day, as promised in another thread)

the very occasional clatter on start-up, which I still haven’t managed to record/video (once in the past 600 miles, and it was tipping down, so no recording.)

First service tomorrow, plus a look at the wheel centres which have "white worm"/aluminium corrosion creeping in from the edges.

It's a good car, but.

my car has gone in under warranty today for an investigation into phone not connecting and random reboots - will update forum in a couple of days as to what they say.

My car went in with the same problem. At first they tried a software update but that didnt work, they ended up needing to replace the touch screen unit. Seems to work fine now.
