I did my first track day yesterday at Snetterton. Coming from an advanced driving background, my instinct was to use push pull steering on the track as well. My experienced track driving friends told me to use fixed input however.

I'm not doubting this is the best option on a track, but why would you use push pull on the road and not the track?

Generally speaking, you use smaller total steering angles on track unless dealing with hairpins or you've completely dropped the back end (in which case expect a black flag on a track day).

Using fixed input allows you to return the wheel to straight in one movement and you always know where straight ahead is. As Ken said, you would almost never run out of lock available in one arm movement on the track, if you make sure your wrists are flexible and sit in a good position that allows freedom of movement (not too close and not too far away).

I think my mate was on that track day in his TVR :D

I went out on track with BossFox in his Yeti when it was only 315bhp. He held the wheel between his forefinger and thumb :D :peek:

Just what I was after, thanks.

It's almost like learning to drive again- when to brake, what line to take etc. Buy it was a good day

There's more than knowing what to do; there's knowing why you do it different on track (and that's not just "because you can").

Haha, small world indeed. The TVR is a beast, I done Bedford with him in my Fabia, impressive to see it being given death :D
