2014 Octavia 1.6 TDi noise on turning left

Featured Replies

First post on here - I've been delighted to discover that the Skoda community is as helpful as the Alfa boards where I used to hang out.

I'm a week into Skoda ownership, having swapped my beloved 159 for a 2014 Octavia with 44K miles. Really liking the car so far, but I've noticed something which may be normal, but which I thought it would be worth getting your opinions on.

At lowish speeds and in 2nd/3rd gear, turning to the left, even by a fairly modest amount, seems to cause some vibration and a rougher exhaust/engine note. The same thing doesn't happen to the right. I suspect that this may be some sort of resonance thing, but now that I've noticed it it's kind of bugging me!

SO - what's the verdict - normal or a cause for alarm and despondancy/ If I seem to be over-reacting put it down to 8 years of Alfa ownership - almost entirely trouble-free, but you always expected them not to be!)

Thanks!

I drive a 2.0 TDi Octavia and never notice the noise you describe. I did also drive the 1.6 TDi briefly before buying our current car and can't remember hearing it either.

It does sound unusual. How long until the next service? It might be worth giving the dealer a heads-up when booking it in and asking that one of the mechanics joins you on a quick spin around the block so you can point out the noise to him.

Even if he isn't able to diagnose it if he at least acknowledges it is not normal then he can put it down on the cars record on the system so if it does turn into something more serious (outside of warranty for example) then you at least have some defense against Skoda UK in the event of a warranty claim.

Any news regarind this problem? We have a Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI from 2015. Have exact the same problem. As soon as the steeringwheel are moved to the left (from middle position) we have this scurring noise. Same noise no matter if its 5% turn or 100% turn.

Have had it at a mechanic (skoda) - he could hear the noise. He had a look at breaks etc - but couldnt find any problem - so told us not to worry about it.

The problem is that as soon as you have locked on that noise - it's not easy to abstract from :-)

So just wanted to know if there is any news regarding this matter? Any solution.

Next step is to have the gearbox checked i guess - but thinking thats gonna eat up some money.

I’ve had the same problem. It’s a wll known problem. I’ve solved the problem by changing the left transmission mount. The part no 5Q0199555BG.

Hi,

On my previous octavia (now my wifes) i've had that same noise for almost 200.000 kms now. Been to the service 3 times for that and they said its normal..

Thanks for the info to know its not "normal" though i wont be changing it now as its out of warranty..

Hi.

Have the noise increased over time? If the noise just stay the same as now - then I can abstract from it. But if it gets worse - then I have to think about it.

Its about the same.

Its been present from the new till today (pic)

I recon there should be some recall in case it was a safety issue..

Me too,and now is 90% of sound gone, that is right mount, left is near belt.

I also had this on my 1.6TDi after the DSG was repaired so it maybe transmission mount related.
