Changing long drive shaft on Fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Morning all.. Im wanting to change my drivers side drive shaft , as I think I got a bad inner cv.. I've done loads of digging , and seems that inner cvs don't fail ... Either way I have another complete shaft to swap ..

So here's a few questions .. Although it doesn't look too difficult .. Just after a few pointers .. Has anyone used a cheapie hub press to push the shaft out of the hub of siezed ?? If so what press did you use . And would you remove the ball joint via the 13mms or the single nut ??

Any idea of how long it should take to swap if all goes well!?

Regards Tony

Inner cvs do fail, it's just the outers fail first normally.

Personally, I haven't got the right puller, I just use an old half inch extension bar as a drift and knock the cv end out of the hub that way.

I've got plenty of extensions and hammers. Will give it a go . Have you ever removed a seized one that way ..

Doubt that the shaft splines will still be bonded into the hub at this stage, very likely to have been removed prior to your visit, I'd imagine.

Give the splines a quick clean our and a good spray before you start, and once it starts moving, it should keep moving.

If you've got the ball joint out of the wishbone, you can pull the hub with your third arm as you knock the cv end through.
