Skoda service plan

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I just got a card through the post trying to sell me a service plan and I'm not sure about how worthwhile it is.

£278 gets me 2 services - Oil service and Oil + Inspection service. This doesn't seem a lot for the money. Other option is to use the local garage. I've got the car on PCP so it really shouldn't affect the result at the end of the contract should I want to keep or trade in the car.

A minor service is £149 with the fixed pricing, so that doesn't seem too bad? Not sure what is done on the inspection service though/is this just like a major?

As it's a 230 you will want it in warranty and I think that's pretty cheap for dealer servicing even if it's just an oil change. I paid a faur bit more than that for 3 services bht I also got 25% off list so I got a good deal on the actual car.

You need to be sure what is included with an 'inspection' service.

Skoda love to try and confuse us with their service descriptions / titles...

1) Minor / fixed / oil service = £149.

2) Major / variable / longlife / inspection service = £269.

They have more recently introduced another 'inspection' service which is just that, a visual inspection, otherwise known as a ploy by Skoda UK to drive more cars through their franchised dealer network.

So, it really depends which type of inspection service you are getting, although even if it was two oil services the plan would still offer a saving.

It is also worth noting that the small print of all Skoda servicing includes a nice little caveat; "only replaced if required". If you look here...

http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed

...you will see that the major service includes a pollen, air and fuel filter over the minor service, however if these extra parts aren't required (which is never before 3 years or 60,000 miles) then they aren't replaced but the higher price is still charged.

But don't worry you can still check out the service requirements for your particular car by referring back to the service book in the glovebox... oh hang on Skoda decided to remove that, wonder why.

Ask for a discount. I had my first service on Saturday. Paid £100+vat. Even had a wash n vacuum

This is also good advice and worth a try. I took my own Quantum Longlife 3 oil to my last dealer service and paid £80 for a minor service.

If you take the 0% finance, just add the servicing on. I'd advise servicing it until your PCP ends. Keeps the warranty up and FSH makes it more desirable used.

What, just straight up ring up and ask for a discount?

Also @glosrich, I have the 0% finance. Judging by your location I presume you used Blade. Is there anything I should look out for getting it serviced by them?

Just say you were thinking of taking it to an independent but you want the skoda service history is there anything they can do on the price to secure your business.

Blade Gloucester at Twigworth. Bought the car from them also. I've always found them good. They squeezed me in for the first service whilst I waited, after I turned up on the wrong day!

They do free collection and delivery, or you can wait in the lounge, or courtesy car for an insurance fee I think. Do wash and vac also. and they did a free alignment check and report, and I got a bottle of screenwash.

I've got the 3 services and a brake fluid change for £479 deal.

Not doing a gazillion miles a year, I chose the 3 annual services for £325. Will see out the PCP fine.

At 9k miles on the clock on my 230 vRS, I have the - 'Oil Service Due' flashing up now everytime I start the car. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!

I cant keep ignoring it. Might call them and do what @MrAdamwood did and ask for a discount!

I had this on my diesel VRS and the dealer said it doesn't need anything other than adjusting the computer to variable service schedule. They said it shouldn't require anything service wise until approx 15 to 18k

Mine is 5 months old and showing about 9500 miles and i do around 24k to 25k a year

Wouldn't want to be on fixed servicing with that mileage! Mine was on fixed and I asked to switch as i do 15-16k.
