Icy on the inside...

Featured Replies

About a year ago I postd asking for advice on how to warm my car up more quickly in the mornings. There was some really helpful answers in there, but now I have a more annoying issue.

When it's cold, I have excessive condensation on the inside of my windscreen. When it's really cold, like it is at the moment, that condensation becomes thick ice right across the inside of my windscreen - more of it, and thicker than on the outside, ridiculously.

Problem 1: Spraying de-icer inside the car is a no-go cos it all runs down and would collect at the bottom/run into the air vents. Don't really want pools of de-icer running around my car!

Problem 2: Because of the curve of the inside of the windscreen, the plastic scraper I have which is hard enough to get the ice off only clears a about a centimetre's width at each end of the scraper because the middle doesn't touch the screen... conversely the ikea rubber scraper (apparently they're called Squeegees?!) I use for clearing condensation off is too soft to shift any ice.

Best I've found so far is spraying some de-icer on a cloth and slowly trying to rub the ice away but it still takes an age. Just wondering if anyone else suffers from this and whether there are any genius solutions out there? Car is parked on the street so hairdryer isn't an option! Anything I can do to stop it forming in the first place?

Cheers!

If you have no wet mats or water anyplace in the car like the spare tyre well, or trapped in the doors then try Moisture Absorbent Packs.

The ones for £1 from Asda will do fine.

A New Pollen Filter, windows all cleaned as best inside.

Get the car as dry as you can when driving & before parking up.

Sounds to me like there's dampness in the car somewhere.

My car Octy 2005, also same Monday/Tuesday in particular. Condensation inside both front and rear screens and the rear door Windows a little.

The school run about 1.5 miles not enough time to clear the rear. Noticed about 70% of cars were all similarly misted up on Monday evening rear screens wise. Fast forward Tuesday am first day back at work 5.30am. Scrape the outside. Front window condensated inside again and ice formed at sun strip level. Heater on max to dry out the water running down the inside of the screen from top to the dash. Rear screen also heavily misted over. Heated rear screen clears outside but inside stays misted for next 2hours despite putting rear screen heater on 3 times. Just the likes cleared.

Placed my pingi dehumidifier bag on the parcel shelf when got to work. Clear by 4pm.

Pingi bags recharged and one up front and one on the parcel shelf. This is the worst I have had it in 6 years of ownership.

The weather suggests humidity in the 90's.

There must be moisture on the inside so somewhere you have a leak. Rear door carriers most obvious point of entry but there are one or two other possibilities.

CarPro Fog Fight = no more condensation on inside of windscreen,

Same problem here.

Our OctyII fl is currently sitting on the drive with an oil heater in the boot to dry it out!

Happens every year when the frost comes.

As George says, dehumidifier bags work well. We use Pingi ones.

Note to self... make sure you recharge them before the cold weather starts.
