Live Traffic enabled - integrate into satnav?

Featured Replies

I've managed to get the live traffic updates working on my car, and they display on the "traffic" button on my Columbus.

However, I can't see that they actually integrate into the satnav for diverting away from incidents/jams.

Last week, the satnav directed me onto a freeway, despite several traffic incident markers displaying on the screen further up the freeway, which was integrated from the live traffic updates.

So I know those work..... but the nav did nothing to try to divert me away from the congestion and instead directed me directly into the stopped-traffic.

I've been through all settings in the nav & infotainment system and can't find anything specifically that mentions integration with live traffic for on-the-fly diversions.

I can't help you with the Columbus but my Amundsen does redirect if it finds a faster route. There isn't a setting to change to enable this, it works ' out of the box'

My Columbus MIB1 has this function but the traffic information is only recieved via the radio signal rather than the through the internet so updates can be quite slow.

It has redirected my several times with an audio announcement "the route has been recalculated due to current traffic conditions".

However, often perhaps due to slow updates or outdated information, it shows that there is an accident on the road ahead but does not change the route.

I guess in these conditions it doesn't know the traffic is stationary instead thinking its just slower than normal & it calculates that it doesnt save any time by taking another route.

On other VAG cars this is in the 'Route' options in the Nav menu.   Look for 'Dynamic route' option and that should divert you according to traffic conditions.

The main reason for slow updates is the companies that provide the broadcast traffic information (such as TrafficMaster in the UK) are very slow at updating the information. On many occasions I've been listening to a radio station and heard that the incident has cleared but the traffic information says the incident is still happening - often for several hours (but my most extreme example is road works on the road south from Dreux in France that has finished one YEAR earlier).

Thanks mate - I never really knew what the third option was when choosing a route.  I understood "eco/green" versus "fastest/red" but never knew what the third option (orange I think) was for.

Makes sense to choose dynamic then, and hope the updates are recent-enough and accurate-enough for the system to auto-divert.

The three colours signify economical, quickest and shortest for green, red and orange respectively. The dynamic routing applies to all 3 if you set it up in the navigation options.

This ^^^  With Dynamic routing enabled then the route choice (colour code) will get overridden as traffic conditions dictate.

Yeh - I checked the settings again and I've already got Dynamic routing enabled...... and I've reset the route options to just give the fastest route, rather than offering 3......

Maybe I need to try heading into traffic jams a bit more often, to see if it actually works

It diverted me a few times. As others said, the updates were quite slow sometimes.
