Coolant temp gauge

Featured Replies

Hey all

I'm not new to the vag brand as I work for VW but I'm new to owning a skoda. Driving this morning when it was -4 my coolant temp gauge didn't raise above 70 degrees. All my previous vag cars have all sat at 90 and the vrs has sat at 90 but this morning it was like it was to cold for the car to get to normal running temp. Has anyone experienced this before and should I be worried?

Yes it's quite normal, especially if yours is a diesel.

Yes it's a diesel but I've had loads of vag diesels before and this is the first one to do this but it's also my first common rail engine ?

Some common rail engines suffered with thermostat failure in the form of premature opening.

Is that easy to test?

On early models it is but on later models the stat lives in its own housing and is inaccessible.

Ok cheers for info I've got a 2011 I'll just monitor the gauge see if it changes.

You might find that when the weather changes and gets a bit warmer the issue disappears.
