Gear shifter linkage in 1.6 TDi - resistance and grease?

Featured Replies

Hi,

gears in my Fabia II change with a bit of resistance. Especially when I move the lever sideways(so it's up/down movement on a gearbox shifter) on warm engine or in warm weather. The lever mechanism inside the car is greased properly however when I checked shifter linkage on the gearbox, under the battery, it was dry so I applied some lithum grease on it. It works better now but there is still a small resistance and squeak when moving lever right.

Does this element needs greasing as it's usually dry when I look up its photos on the internet? Maybe the resistance is caused by thermal expansion of some parts in this mechanism but if that's the case some of you should have similar experience?

I'll take it for a longer ride tomorrow so I'll probably find out if this really helped.
