Some times dificulty in changing gears

Featured Replies

Not sure if anyone else has come across this, but I would appreciate ideas.

Changing gears can some times be easy, but in general moving the gear stick in the left right or right left direction can be very stiff. Going from 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th is typically easy, but shifting across 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th can be stiff.

I am assuming it is one of the two cables, but unsure even how to remove the gear knob and surround on my Citigo to have a look at that end.  Not sure if there are oiling/greese points for the cable?

It is a 2015 Citigo 1.0 manual box fairy basic model.

Cheers

Get someone to waggle the gear lever, while you try to look at where the cables terminate on top of the gearbox. It could be an obstruction or a problem with one of the cables. If nothing obvious, you'll have to pop the cables off the yoke (I will post a pic of this if you want to take it on).
Then take a look at the shift mechanism:

Thanks for the feedback on the problem, I will get the Mrs to move the stick and have a check, I will also try and follow the guide to remove the gear cover and check all appears OK, no loose pins etc.

When I get the gear stick cover off is there any type of lubricant that one should use on that assembly, silicone grease/Red grease/normal grease etc?

Thanks

White grease is good.

Thanks. AG Falco

I normally take white grease as being a lithium based grease which I believed is for metal on metal surfaces and not the plastic/nylon surfaces I can see in the gear stick assembly.

I think that the silicone grease I have is also a white colour and it's applications seems to be plastic to other materials.

There is definitely some notchiness in the left <> right action and the gear stick does not self centre, not had the chance to look under the bonnet yet.

Any grease at hand is fine for the parts in the pic....

Well I have greased up the gear stick end and with a tine of spray grease done the other end on the gearbox, very hard to see the ends as they are under pipework but should have got there with the spray.

Time will tell if things improve, thanks for any replies etc, it is appreciated.
