Anyone ever changed a temperature flap actuating motor?!

Featured Replies

Further to my adventures in the world of a car where the heating works fine on one side but stays on permanent lukewarm on the other, I had my car scanned tonight and the following code came up:

01809 - Actuating Motor for Temperature Flap; Left (V158)

              000 - -

So after a bit of googling, it turns out this is seen on other VAG forums, but I can't find it on the octy ones at all.

Two things...

1. There's mention of a reset that might work, but it sounds like a VCDS one as opposed to pressing the two buttons on the climatronic, so does anyone know if it IS something you do with VCDS plugged in, or is it the two button one I've already tried half a dozen times?

2. If it's a case of just replacing the motor, has anyone done it? On other cars, it seems to vary between being a complete pig and being methodical and not too bad.

Thoughts?

Is that a different type of recalibration to the two button climatronic one? More... intense or summat??

Ooh, worth a go. ANy tips as to how to get it out, and is it difficult? Happy to give it a go as long as it's not an absolute pig, but as already stated, some VAG cars have taken fairly normal diyers hours on end (in one case, mainly simply cos one screw is an absolute nightmare thanks to it's positioning!).

I don't really know, it doesn't seem to take any longer than the two button method.

As said though, it won't calibrate properly if the distribution flap is stuck. If you can get it out, it might just need freeing off. The recirc flap motor seized on mine a couple of years ago, and removal and a good spray of thin spray grease has so far been a permanent solution.

Mike, you talking about the flap on the left of the pollen filter, correct? How did you make access to that screw which is behind the flap motor on the top?

To the OP

Temp flap motor is located on the end of central console, under the radio. To gain access you have to remove ashtray and side panel of the central console. At least you'll see if you can do it yourself or it's a job for local garage.

Thanks guys, anyone got a photo of where it is?? I've stripped the inside out a few times just with a bit of time and common sense so if I know what I'm looking for and it doesn't take any stupid one off tools I'd be fairly confident. From every photo I've seen of the unit, it's only three screws/bolts which hold it on, just need to know where it is exactly so I don't pull apart the wrong bits of my car hunting! :)

£150?!! Bloody hell, looks like I'll be trying a bit of grease on it if I can get it out!

Part number seems to be that V158 at the end, I'm guessing from searches that V159 is the other side. I have seen the part 1K1907511C show up as well... same thing??

One thing: am I right in thinking Valeo are an OEM make as they seem to pop up quite a bit and I found their version for about £50... http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/1085297

EDIT: mate at Skoda said it's 1k290511c... 1k1 is a left hand drive, apparently, although I don't know what difference that makes, that and a google search doesn't come up with anything?! :/
