New tyres...

Featured Replies

I had Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2 on my previous car ( Seat Leon fr tfsi ) and i rate them very highly. Now my car vrs is due a couple of tyres next year and for the price I'm seriously tempted by the Uniroyal rs 3's. I don't think I've read a bad review of them. The Goodyears are a great tyre but quite expensive.

Dunno what happened but I just copied the last post somehow. Bloody touchscreens! Anyway I have been out driving a lot today and I have to say the Uniroyal rainsport 3 are amazing so far! I have felt a lot more confident on the wet and greasy backroads. And I was driving below the recommended summer tyre temperatures. Very happy with my choice of not splashing out for winter tyres

Is your car a petrol or diesel? Interested to see how they are coping with the low down torque if it's diesel. Have the rainsports got rim protectors?

Another vote for winters. My Vreds are brilliant in the summer but spinning in 3rd at 5 degrees C was no fun. I got a set of Avon ice touring ST which are designed for cold and standing water more than snow and they've been great. I've now done about 20k miles on them (left them on far to late into the summer due to exams) and they're around 5mm left on the front. Wheels and tyres from http://www.mrwinterwheels.co.uk were about £360 and when I need to replace them the avons were about £50 last time I looked making swapping to winters much more cost effective than running the same wheels all year round. Not found a down side yet!

I have just looked at their website. what an amazing deal they have on 16" wheels right now. I've wanted alloys for my car for ever and now I could with such a cheap price get winters and then when they are out put summer or al seasons on the nice shiny new alloys. love the black  http://www.mrwinterwheels.co.uk/16-skoda-octavia-ii-1z-alloy-winter-wheels-black-en.html £279 for 4 amazing.

I just think the Mrs might be a bit upset me spending money on wheels an tires lol

So, what are peoples' favourites on the VRS these days? I want tyres with good grip in wet and dry and would like to keep the price at <£100 a corner. Uniroyals seemed to be mentioned a lot?

Currently got Maxxis MAZ1 (I think) and they're rubbish in the wet and quite noisy.

Funny that I ran my VRS on those Maxxis for years and thought they were pretty good if noisy.

After them I went for Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance. A bit less feel than the Maxxis I thought but much quieter and mpg claims were true I got another 2 or 3mpg on average.

Goodyear tyres are hard to beat at the moment.

If you want to make her really happy, buy them for her as a Christmas present, :giggle: .

Golf-fiend, I'm agreeing with you! I think the blurb I read on them when I bought them said something along the lines of" designed by the British for British weather" or some such and I have to say they've been excellent!

got michlians on the fleet.

Just another question. Do people favour tyres with rim protection, or do they add too much cost for what they are?  The rim protection category has a lot less choice at BC.

Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 look a bargain at £76 each. I was expecting tyres of such good recommendation and stats to be £100+.

I know we're only part way through Winter, but it's been very mild thus far.  I'm still trying to decide whether to get Winter tyres and leave them on all year, or just get good Summer tyres. Chances are, I'll just be buying one set.

Unless I'm mistaken, BC doesn't list those in the VRS wheel size of 225/40/R18Z

Goodyear Eagle F1s have always been fine all year round for me. Excellent in the wet.

I have the run protectors too. Handy!

I have Uniroyal Rainsport 3's all round on from March/April to November. I put steels on with 205x55x16 Continental WinterContact 850 over the winter. Winters are much better in colder, wetter weather not just snow and ice.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4.Best tyre I've ever run on any car I've had.

Had Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 3 fitted and so far they're impressed. Good grip, smooth but a little louder than I expected. Got quite an 'airy' sound. I'll let them bed in a bit (done maybe 50 miles) and report back. :)

I have a Suzuki swift sport eagle f1's awesome tyres which I would gladly put on any car I got the fronts cheap at 85 each  on a log google search from tyreleader theyre in Germany and tbh contacting them is only email but tyres were delivered to the garage I then paid 8 quid per rim to have them fitted

I have summer and winter wheel/tyre sets for the VRS and my van and have used them for many years. The winters make a huge difference to grip in winter weather whether it's cold and dry, wet, snow or ice. I have driven quite a bit in snow and heavy rain / surface water and they have been really good.

You have to drive to the conditions but they do give significantly increased grip. Well worth the money.

I have Uniroyal Rainsport 3 on both and the Boxster for the summer and Continental WinterContact 830 on the van and 850 on the VRS for the winter.
