Chrome trim at top of front doors

Featured Replies

In common with a number of others on this forum, the chrome trim at the top of my front offside door catches the chrome trim on the rear door and pulls it off as you open the front door.

When I rang my dealer today to get it sorted out they said there was now a Skoda recall on this for inspection and replacement of the chrome trim as necessary.

I was in the workshop for some new snowtires friday last week. They did this recall (inspecting and adding some glue) on the chrome trim, while the car was in. My invoice says "AZ644542" is carried out. My car did not have the problem, but was glued/secured anyway.

I am still not amused by the discolouration on all the chrome trim around the windows and Skoda said it was because I used too harsh a shampoo when cleaning it and that caused the degradation.

The problem is, how do I prove that at the time I noticed it only the dealer and the car detailer had washed it.

Grumphh !

You can try autosol polish on the chrome to bring it back to its former glory?

Isnt the chrome strip plastic coated or lacquered, isnt this what is discoloured?

Not that I'm aware of. The trim that goes around the top of the window is brushed aluminium, bare which is why it marks and taints easily but autosol can remove a multitude of sins.

The trim on the lower part of the window is chrome and could have some coating on it.

I have no issues with my Chrome strips but dealer is bringing my car in to have them replaced under a re - call as well as for a software update for the air-con/heat which I do have an issue with. Must be a lot of complaints from customers about the chrome fittings to warrant a re - call. ..

It's not a recall for the chrome strips, the recall serves to glue the upper door seals in place to stop them moving up the door and fouling the rear doors.

The chrome strips are only replaced if they are damaged as a result of the seals moving.

I can confirm this. I had my car in over the weekend for some suspension work and they had the strips as an item on the job sheet.  When I collected the car this afternoon they said that they'd checked the strips but hadn't had to take any remedial action.

Hmm just found this thread and I have the same issue. Currently operating some waterproof tape to hold the back door trim in place. I will get it booked in early Jan if it's a known fault.

Well apparently after me telling the dealers about the well known issues with the seals when I booked the car in for a service, but the expert on the service desk said ah it just needs a bit of glue. Shock! horror! A phone call to say the service has been done but they need to order new door seals. Great! another trip to the dealer.

Thread resurrection time...

I had both the rubber door seals and chrome strips replaced before this was a known problem. In fact someone from Škoda came to have a look at it.

My car went in for its 2 year fixed-term service yesterday and there was a service update flagged for the chrome door strips. I reminded them mine had already been done but apparently this a new update. They now remove the chrome strip and insert sticky pads behind it even if it's been previously checked/repaired. Apparently this is to prevent it happening in the first place if it hasn't already happened and because some 'repairs' using glue have been unsatisfactory.

Mine finally got sorted last week and it looks like a decent job, although I guess time will tell.

Mine goes in on Thursday for this, never had any issues until we had that really hot spell, now its a pain in the backside.

I guess that'd be at Trans-city Skoda... Nice dealership. I got my Fabia from Preston but they've gone now! No issues on the chrome on Fabia's, apart from they have none!

Your guess would be right, they are a fine bunch at Trans-City Skoda :)

Trans city must the last traditional dealers left in London, now Prestons have gone. My family had used Preston Motors since the 80's and If they had still been around I would have gone to them rather than the one a 5 minute drive away.

I think that you are probably right roo, most have either closed or gone to larger sites on trading estates. Hopefully Warren and his Dad at Trans-City will continue to dodge that bullet and remain a small, caring family concern :)

Mine will need doing again next week.  Found the driver side one popped out again.  No glue behind it though.

Work completed, picked the car up on Friday as the rubber on the drivers door was replaced as that had become scuffed from rubbing and pinging off the chrome trip on the OSR Passenger door (Thank you Trans-City :biggrin:).

All good now and fingers crossed that it stays that way
