switching on fog lights

Featured Replies

I have a mk2 Octavia estate, tonight was so foggy I pulled the switch on the lights to switch on fog lights, didn't appear to do anything for the front so i got out and they were not on.

I tried pulling or twisting the switch but for the life of me could not figure out how to get the fog lights on.. Please help.

With the headlight switch in the 'on' position pull the switch out towards you and you should see a green fog symbol light on the dash and the front fogs should be on. Pull the switch out to the second position and you should see an orange fog light symbol on the dash and the rear fog light should be on. If they are not working check fuses. Normally only the rear offside fog light is on.

Fog lights will work only when you have the sidelights or headlights on.... As above pull out the switch once for fronts and a second time for rear. When turning the lights back to the off position you find the switch will automatically pull back in to make sure the fog lights are switched off the next time you turn the lights or side lights back on.

Does the light switch pull out one or two clicks?

I only ask as I don't think the SE Plus had fog lights as standard so you might find someone has replaced the blanking plates for fog lights but hasn't wired them up :)

It feels like it only pulls out once. And I only get the rear fogs on but I always assumed front fog lights are standard as they were on my old cars.

I do have the front fog bulbs/glass there. Is there a way to check if worked up or not?

If its only one click then it looks like its a switch from one without front fogs. It may have been changed at some point due to a fault and replaced with the wrong part. The switch should also have icons for front and rear fogs. If it only has the rear fog icon then its definitely one without front functionality.

Look for another switch elsewhere maybe.

If lights are there hopefully you will find a switch for them.

Easiest way to check is to remove one of the fog light units.

I use the 'credit card' method to remove mine, the credit card might get damage so don't use an important one:

The official method is to remove a piece of trim first:

If the car doesn't have the front foglight switch, there will only be one foglight symbol on the switch bezel rather than 2. OK, you have to look at the switch with the car stopped to see that, which is why you have 2 warning lights in the instruments.
