Ah, were those pictures not your car?

Yes, access may well be easier from below. It might be easiest for you to buy a replacement connector with wire tails pre-fitted, then join them into the loom.

they were, but because I break a lot of things I touch, the blue wire end disappeared 😇

also which loom? the big loom at the headlight, or where it splits and feeds the motor starter I believe? thought of unplugging at the loom but there are too many wires i'd rather avoid unplugging everything if I can

Uncover the wires by cutting back tape and conduit where my blue arrow points, that's where you need to find the wires that need reconnecting to the switch connector.

I know but I snapped off the blue wire ending that was sitting on the plug - so need the plug out to actually add wire to it to connect with the blue bit under the tape. So still need the plug off 😔

Also this is the switch I bought (not saying I'm going to fit it) but it doesn't look complicated to plug in, how come is it so hard to unplug the current one?

my MOT is coming up in a month, so it's a bit of a pain 🙄

Are you following the suggestion about pushing the connector body firmly onto the switch before trying to release the latch, that's the 'secret'?

Look up youtube videos on "VW connector removal" if you can't picture what I mean.

I was , there was some play there but not enough, I was scared to break it. i have small hands and little confidence . thank you, I've watched and will practice on something more accessible, airflow meter sensor perhaps 😅

Good plan.

Personally I find a flat screwdriver that just fits widthways under the latch is best for releasing, then twisted gently through a small angle to lift the latch in a very controllable, limited way. Minimises danger of breaking it.

screwdrivers work with college cars for me... when it comes to my own car I break everything 🤨 won't be the first plug I damage . Patience and practice I guess

If i unscrewed the whole switch, would it not be easier to remove the connector? is it worth a shot with a spanner?

@Martini06

What do you think will happen to the remaining wire if you unscrew the switch with the connector still attached?

well the wire snapped already so I'm not sure? I assumed the connector would turn too as I'm unscrewing it? am I being silly

Fine, maybe I was being silly 😟 what I'm thinking if the other wire needs soldered onto the plug, this could be done with the remaining one too, in the event of it snapping, 😅😆 I'll find out tomorrow a friend is bringing their soldering kit, seeing that I've only ever done some soldering comfortably on the bench and not bent over the car

Guys does the reversing switch work the rear parking sensors as well, one person on here said it does and one said it dont so unsure really and both my reversing light and sensor's  are not working, it dont beep anymore when put into reverse

@sealover1

Disconnect the switch and short the connector to test.

got find it 1st lol do they both run off 1 switch MicMac?

@sealover1

I would assume so.

Be prepared for inverse logic, meaning the switch is normally closed until reverse gear is selected then it will go open circuit.  So as soon as the switch is disconnected you may have reversing lights and PDC.
