Daytime Running Lights

Featured Replies

I may be missing something here but I have an October 2015 SEL Exec with day time running lights, but within the Columbus Lights Menu I cannot find the option to turn them off, I have Light Assist and Blind Spot Detection, TSR etc.

Any ideas on this.

There's no option to turn them off, this can be added with VCDS though.

Not sure why it is shown in the manual if you do not physically have to option in the Columbus, car manuals who need s them :)

Can VCDS code the rear ones 'on'? My other cars have front and rear DRLs so front only seems odd. I don't really want side lights as they are dimmer at the front. Could do with twin rear fogs working too - I bet the LEDs are already there so why not use them!

Yes you can code the rear DRL's on with VCDS the N/S fog light (on a RHD car) however has no LED's inside the light.

Bother!

I had a Mark 6 Golf that you disabled the Day running lights by doing a certain thing with the indicator stalk, I can't remember exactly but it was a 3 second job. I disabled them as I fitted 2 LED strip bars on the lower grill where the front fogs should go (ours didn't have any) & had them wired up to come on with the ignition.Might be the same with the Superb??

I am mystified as to why people would want the daytime running lights off.

In the early cars with DRL a few years ago it was not law for DRL's, hence the option to enable / disable,

However now its law.

I only asked because i found it within the Columbus Manual, it showed it as an option, but when i checked on my Columbus the option was note in the menu.

This is something I code in when doing VCDS coding, simply so I can turn them off whilst coding to save the battery (some coding can take a while to do)

Coz when I'm out dogging I don't want the car to become a cop magnet?

Yeah, in my dreams.

Back in my real world - it's handy on these cold nights when I've got the engine running while waiting for someone without also illuminating the whole neighbourhood. Those LED DRLs are damn bright.

I wouldn't have thought around 5 watts would drain a battery when the engine is running.

It wouldn’t, but normal sidelights, numberplate lights etc are 5w each (not sure how many watts all the LED’s draw??), you also do not need the engine running whilst coding.

Depending on how much coding is required or ad-maps are being saved etc it is quite easy to take over an hour.

Sorry, I didn't read it properly and missed where you said whilst coding. It makes sense to turn off as much a possible then.

As a matter of interest, LED's are extremely low wattage and the whole array would be about 5 watts.

The Police hate them too.

Sat doing surveillance at night, wanting the engine running for heat, the DRL's might as well spell out 'POLICE'  :D

  • 2 years later...

Can anyone, please, tell me if there is an affordable interface available online to do this on my own? Maybe a link on ebay or aliexpress.

I would like to activate the menu option for DRL in the CAR setup menu of the infotainment unit.

Forgot to mention the car: Superb MKIII (2016)
