Citibump!

Featured Replies

My wife has accidentally reversed her 8 month old Citigo into a metal post, scratching the bumper and leaving a small dent in the metal of the wing.

If we get it repaired by a mobile bodywork company or a garage, not involving insurance,is the car warranty at risk?

Even if you claim on your insurance you are entitled to use an approved repairer chosen by you. As long as the estimate for the repair is reasonable and the scope of the repairs is in line with the assessing engineers assessment then the insurance company will probably not refuse.

You may lose your entitlement to such things as a "free courtesy car" but you have the peace of mind that your car has been repaired by craftsmen that you trust, rather than the poor sods struggling to earn a living wage via productivity bonuses in the insurance companies own huge repair facIlity.

The dent in the wing might be repairable using PDR techniques if the paint film is not broken and the metal is not sharply creased and a full bumper respray need not cost the earth. I had a BMW MINI rear bumper refinished in metallic silver for £100 last year, the week after they had completely replaced the passenger door and sill on my wife's SEAT Leon. The Leon was a £1,500 insurance repair performed by my chosen VAG approved body shop and paid for by Direct Line Group.
