Octavia 1z random door locking and unlocking while driving

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Wife's 2006 Octavia vRS Combi has developed a problem where it will randomly lock and unlock the doors as you drive. It will do it on every journey but sometimes only lock while other times it will lock and unlock rapidly over and over again.

VCDS shows:

Address 42: Door Elect, Driver Labels: 1K0-959-701-MAX2.lbl

Part No: 1T0 959 701 C

Component: Tuer-SG 024 2438

Coding: 0000758

Shop #: WSC 73430 790 00000

VCID: 377D18A74640B7FA5F-8062

1 Fault Found:

00100 - Drivers Interior Locking Button (E308)

008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

To test this I disconnected the interior locking button and the problem remained. I have since reconnected the switch.

The car seems to like being locked more than unlocked and the switch behaviour mirrors this - it will always lock if the lock side of the switch is pressed but it often won't co-operate with unlocking. In order to unlock the doors we now press the unlock button on the key once we have remove it from the ignition.

Has any one had this problem before? I have done searches and it looks like people had various lock issues with MK1 Octavias but failures on MK5 Golfs and MK2 Octavias seem rare.

Is there a way to live monitor what the car thinks its doing with VCDS? Some kind of log of the bus communication?

From my research the door control module is integrated into the drivers window motor. Before I dig into this am I right to think that the switch is not at fault given that the problem still existed when the switch was disconnected?

Many thanks!

Sounds like a wiring issue to me, maybe where wires go into the driver's door?

do you have any faults in the steering controller?

Thanks for the replies.

No, Steering Angle, Steering Wheel and Steering Assist are all error free.

I'd try a new button first as you are also experiencing issues with pressing it. Probably cheap enough to replace!

When I bought our Mk2 FL the central lock button locked but was completely inoperative for unlock.

I replaced with a genuine replacement for about £20. There were pattern part replacements cheaper but I didn't know what they'd be like and it was a bit of fiddling to get it disconnected and reconnected.

I didn't have the Radom locking and unlocking but that to me sounds like a faulty switch or a faulty wiring issue. I'd replace the switch as a start.

Edit: or disconnect the switch completely and prove the uninitiated locking and unlocking goes away.

Thanks. I already tried it with the switch disconnected and it still locks and unlocks randomly.

Oh right, well then, that makes it a bit harder! All I can think of is wiring. Were you able to carefully inspect the wiring at the switch end especially around the connection block pins for breaks / frayed wires and wherever it goes to at the far ends. Convenience module maybe? If you can find the two ends of the cable you can check each wire for continuity while wiggling it a bit to induce faults.

Just an update to this.  I removed the center console / armrest etc and everything went back to normal.  Ran it like that for a couple of days to be sure.  I then re-install everything and its been fine ever since.  It must have been a connection or crimped wire somewhere.

Good result.
