No heat from heater..! freezing!

Featured Replies

hello!

My 20061,9tdi estate has developed an nasty "habbit", no heat from heater.

What do happend is when I drive away, engine starts to gradually heat up, at the same time heater temperature is rising. When engine gets/is "Normal" hot 90c, heater stops to heat. :(

Engine temperature is fine.

No loss of coolant

no "mayonaise" in oil filler cap

no "Bubbling" in expansion tank

no oil in water or water in oil

no overheating

normal level of coolant

no exxessive preasure in the coolant tank!

Just cold air in to the cabin ! :( pretty bad, since its -20c outside :(

can you help me out what more to check? Im running out of ideas!

Try flushing the matrix first without removing it, through the inlet and return lines inside engine bulkhead?

PS, hopefully you have a heated garage or workshop or access to somewhere. -20C would make difficult working conditions....

It could be worth trying the flap realignment procedure first (assuming you have climatronic). Can't remember off the top of my head which buttons you have to hold down though.

Econ & botton left button, think it's the air flow to head.

Silly (ish) question, but does it have air con? and what are the settings. How long have you had the car?

It sounds like you have had it working before but do not want to overlook the obvious.

Air con does not work below 5 C to avoid ice being created.

As the heater matrix seems to give out heat during warm-up of the engine, it is more likely to be a flap valve that has cut off warm air.

Take a look on YouTube for how to read the individual sensor temperatures and flap positions. I can't remember which buttons you press to gain access and in any case it depends on which control layout you have.

hello!

tested flapalignment, all OK, still no heat! one thing thoug...both pipes TO heater are warm/hot. is there a valve or something inside the heater?

My understanding is there're is no water valve. Temperature control is by mixing the cold and hot air.

My guess is that if it is not the mixing flaps then it is the temperature sensors.

If yours is dual zone, try changing one side to a hotter setting as there will be two sensors.

Just found this American forum with a similar experience on on a similar age car.

hello!

so after checkin all "obivious" things out, did visit lockal independent garage. Head or head gasket is caput. Lucky thing was that cambelt was about to be changed.

symptoms did show when rev 3000rpm. small tiny bubles. luckily engine did not mix fluids, and did not overheat..

head, cambelt and all what comes with it, labour and "Normal" service cost me totally 1000£. . :( merry christmast!

thanks for input!

Hi ive just joined this forum and put my own question on. Sorry in advance if i missed the post but could someone advise me please?

My 13 plate 1.6 d keeps having cooling loss warning so i top up. Its random, sometimes could go 2 weeks without the warning but sometimes twice a day? Anyway 2 days ago lost the heat inside the car. Took to vw garage they say matrix thing blocked gona cost around £500 to replace. Booked for Monday but anyone know why this had happened?

im having simliar issues, id say check the head gasket first. a pressure or sniff test of the coolant should be done
