Sat Nav gone haywire!

Featured Replies

Well, my Yeti has gone and lost herself! Got in the car this morning to find it thought it was in the middle of Falmouth Bay at a depth of 295ft! Driving about today the location is moving on the nav map rather randomly and by the time I parked up back in Truro this evening the car though she was somewhere near Lands End. Poor girl hasn't a clue where she is! Expecting a call back from the dealers in car tech specialist tomorrow.

Previously that has been caused by water getting into the aerial base.

Simple cure; fit new one.

I think that Trump or his Russian chums will have something to do with it!  I was out yesterday using my TomTom stand alone satnav, found that it thought that I was driving across fields and a river (new road section) so I have just updated it and lost all my maps, maybe I need to phone Trump etc?

That would make sense - I washed the car yesterday. Not good though on a 5-month old car!

he's more contactable via Twitter when his aides let him use it.

Oh well, no sympathy then..............you washed the car!!   :notme:  :D

......and definitely don't drive in the rain either

Had this happen after a couple months on an new Octavia Blackline, turned out to be a simple replacement of antenna, a well known Skoda problem ,so I would visit the dealers first,a nearly new car shouldn't be letting in water after a few months (even a Skoda).

It certainly isn't good enough, you should have washed it before then! :)

I had it happen once. But turning off the car and restarting it solved it.

Don't use soap?

Dealer has called back and car booked in for a couple of weeks time with courtesy car. In the meantime they say they have ordered in 'some parts' (so probably a new aerial) to avoid a return visit. I did think about pulling the fuse and leaving it for half an hour, however, having tried 'fuse 13' (or what appears to be fuse 13) in the dash and the head unit still working I've given up on that idea. That's what warranties are for, and I don't need the nav for a few weeks.

You need to turn the manual upside down for the correct orientation of the fuses.

I think it's probably because it's shown for a left hand drive.

I have this printed out and folded into my fusebox.

Well, Nav fix done and as suspected antenna replaced with a 'modified antenna as per TPI 2041561/2'. What surprises me is that as this is clearly a longstanding issue why a 6 month old car wasn't fitted with a 'modified antenna' in the first place.

Top marks though to Carrs Skoda for their customer service sorting it out as 'painlessly' as possible.

My Nav system in the Golf quite often starts with a map of "Wolfsburg" but when it is on properly it stays on track.

Glad it is all sorted.

No need to worry about washing a Yeti or driving in the rain!

Probably done this way to use up stock of the old type of antenna and then replace on a fix as fail basis.
