Could these faults be related?

Since late summer there have been 2 niggles with my Octi which my mechanic thinks just might be related.  Has anyone had a similar pair of phenomena simultaneously?

1) Fairly constant engine warning light.  The code, apparently, signifies a faulty fuel temperature sensor.  Can be replaced at a cost of around £65 all-in.  I'll attend to it in the New Year - the performance/economy of the car are not affected at all.

2) There is an annoying, growling vibration at idle, low revs coming from the front somewhere.  Sounds like something not attached properly - exhaust or similar?  My mechanic has searched in vain for the source.  Everything is fixed properly and nothing obvious is vibrating.  A mystery.

He did suggest that possibly the two things are related (however unlikely).

Any thoughts?

Many thanks, Nic.

Possibly. My old 98 tdi needs the g62 temperature sensor replacing, side effects seem to be glow plug preheat time too short and cold start/running is very agricultural vibration, until it heats up a little.

I think the ecu defaults to warm/hot running injection timing etc, so could explain the vibration when cold.
