Skoda octavia 2 FL Headlight Customization.

Featured Replies

Hey frds,

I am looking forward to customize my head lights.

Let start from the starting how it all started.

I was not satisfied with the light of my Octavia so i upgraded it to to HIDs.

I Got my self 3 HID kits for FOG lamp low beam and high beam.

However as The High beam blinks the oncoming traffic i can use it only in highways or Dipper. And as the HID takes some time to get bright it is not gud for Flashing. Also the Low beam was not that bright as i compared it with the LnK version which have OEM KIT kit.

So i came to a conclusion that i should get Bi xenon projector lens. This will solve the Dipper issue as only the shutter moves and the HID bulb always stays on.

However is was I got confused, What if after projector lamps also does not give the amount of light i am expecting.

So i decided to get two Bi xenon projector lams for high beam and low beam.

Now this setup will solve all my issues.

I will have 4 Low beam bulbs and 4 high beam bulbs.

But i have another issue. To get such setup i need to connect all 4 bulbs with Low beam connectors and all 4 shutters to highbeam.

one shutter needs 12W power and high beam have 55W so that is not a problem.

However the Low beam have 55W each and i am connecting 4 bulbs in two slots.

That means the 55W connector will be connected to 110w bulbs.

M sure this will make some issues.

Help me fix this issues guys.

I have following options

I can get relays but not sure if this can fix the issue.

or i can get two 35W HID kit, This will be 70W in total and get a relay for extra 15W.

Helps guys....

I Hope i  made myself m not confusing anyone.

This is what i am looking forward to.

You need to use a relay for the xenons, then use the current supply to the low beam as a trigger.

This setup will then trigger a bulb error which as far as I am aware cannot be coded out.

You will need to add a GOOD resistor mounted to a GOOD heat sink, I think the ECU is happy with about 25w usage and not the whole 55w.

Look forward to pics

Cheap HID kits are rarely the answer to lighting output.

Based on my own experience of my FL down unlit country lanes:

- Stock dipped halogen projectors were 'ok'

- Stock dipped xenon projectors are much better, more distance and spread when correctly aligned

- Stock main/high beam halogen reflectors work great, certainly enough light to drive at legal speeds

I find the biggest difference to light output has always been keeping the headlights clean and correctly aligned. I have no idea of the driving conditions in India but at this time of year in the UK, the roads are always damp and dirty so I need to clean the headlights after almost every journey.

Personally, if you can't find original xenon units in good condition, I would start by switching the dipped projector for a good quality bi-xenon unit connected to a good quality (ideally OEM) ballast to reduce the risk of damaging the BCM. I would also put halogen bulbs back in the main beams. This should give improvements for both high and low beams with a minimum cost and electrical change.

Try that for a few weeks and if it's still not good enough, then consider converting the main beam reflector to a bi-xenon. You'll need to be careful with alignment as I don't think there is any horizontal adjustment, only vertical for the main beams. It might have to be quite a small projector as I'm not sure how much space there is :)

As xpower says, pictures would be great!

Thanks for reply,

Well now I see how bad I am in writing.   Well I will try to improve myself.

As if now I am just painting the headlights and getting a DRL.

I will not go for the 4 Bixenon setup till the time I m not sure that its not going to harm my car.

I will post the Pictures soon.
