Hello, 

 

I've had my Skoda Rapid 62 plate for about a year now and it's been brilliant apart from an annoying rattle in the rear of the car (especially prominent on the fantastic quality roads around Manchester)

 

It's quite a "rapid" rattle when going over rough surfaces, and sounds like something light that's tapping metal. Positional wise it sounds like its coming from the rear passenger side (I could be completely wrong about that though)

 

I've spent hours trying to isolate the cause with no luck so hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.

 

Things I've checked:

 

1) Removed the spare wheel + all the tools

2) Removed the parcel shelf and lowered the rear seats + tried rattling the seat belts 

3) Checked the cabling to both rear lights and added extra cable ties, Reached as far into the car as my arm could go to find anything loose but everything feels secure. 

 

The only cabling I'm unsure about is the central brake light, which I believe is routed through the two rubber seals are the top of the boot lid?

Are the tailgate bump stops adjusted correctly.

 

Might also try putting Gummi Pfledge around all the door/boot seals, including the velvet/felt one at the top of the doors, plus the above mentioned bump stops. 

 

Further you could try putting electrical tape around the lock plates for the rear seats and the doors to act as a barrier between metal to metal contact.

Just ordered some Gummi Pfledge so shall give that a go. 

 

Don't know about the bump stops but will have a look at that as well. 

 

 

And my music is normally on, but sometimes you just want to hear a smooth ride  :p

Mine has more rattles than mothercare. Usually drowned out by the clutch squeal mind.

Or the static from my p1sh radio reception.

Or the a/c blowing full pelt cold air of it's own accord.

Regarding the rattle, I recently noticed the following on mine: when closing the *last* open door there is a strange noise, like a bump, as if the air trapped inside by the closing door finds its way out and forces something to move. It is heard from the rear but I have not yet pinpointed the exact spot.

It is easy to reproduce it by closing all windows and doors, and then cycling a door open and closed with its handle "pulled" so that it cannot lock. Can anyone confirm?

There is a body vent/valve that pops open under pressure.

It is located on the right hand side at the rear .(behind the rear bumper.)

I had the hard plastic rear shock cover break, and then slide down the shock coming to rest near the bottom mount - then rattling on every bump in the road, and because it was in contact with the suspension the sound was hard to trace. 

 

The fix was easy though, an inch of pipe insulation subtly placed stopped it.

No louder than other cars I've owned. The rubber flaps in yours may be sticking.

Someone else had this and it turned out to be the rear shock absorber bolts rattling over the bumps. Got new bolts and loctite and all good since. His was lowered though.

Well, I've Pfledge'd up all the rubber seals and the rattles remained, so out of frustration I slammed the boot lid a little harder than usual and lo and behold the main annoying rattle has ceased to be. In my case I think there is some wiring going through the boot lid that has come lose. So brute force actually worked :D (hopefully it lasts until the summer)

I have noticed there is a hard plastic cylinder shaped thing around the bump stop on both my rear wheels, which you can shake around quite freely making a tapping sound. The top section is only slightly above the top of my wheel (I'm not sure whether this is by design or if it's broken though; weather has been too horrid for me to have a proper look)

The climate control is bit funky :D I gave up on Auto, all it does it blow at full speed all the time.
