Is the Mk2 Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDI estate a good buy?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. After a bit of a nightmare with an 03 reg 1.9 Tdi A4 Avant (Quattro), I'm looking to cut my losses and buy a Skoda. I've found a tidy 08 reg Fabby estate, with the 1.4 Tdi in engine in it. Now it's got a partial Skoda service history, and the current owner is an aerospace engineer and has serviced the car himself for the last three years. It's done 98k and he wants 2k for it. I've heard a lot of horror stories about the 1.4 diesel lump being very brittle. Would this be a car to avoid, or a car to buy? If it's worth a shot, what should I look for?

Many thanks in advance :)
