Rear trim on boot lid

Featured Replies

Has any one got any idears on how to take the trim off the boot lid for the hatch back at all?

Unclimbed from wiper end first and work your way down pull clips out firmly but gentle.

Getting the trim back on turns the air blue.

Cheers Cward.

I undone the screw from the in side but couldn't see any way how it was still on!

Make sure you undo the screw in the pull down handle first.

The rest pretty much pulls off

Cheers Tuby. Got the screw out by the handle pull but couldn't get the panel to come off! :/

Cheers Mike. Got the screw out not a problem. I'll have another look later in the week.

Mike, I wish I'd known your method before. All means of anger management went flying out the window. I was literally at the point of throwing it the garage and going without it fitted. I know I've damaged some the clips as well as the recesses that hold them in place so come the summer I'll get a replacement panel and kidnap you, apparently you'll fit in my boot quite easily.

Be brutal - the trim appears firmly fast, but once one corner is prised away, the rest will follow. Pull firmly without yanking at the trim, and you won't (or shouldn't) break any clips. You may get the metal clips popping out of the trim and sitting in the retaining holes in the hatchback lid, just use a pair of long nose pliers to gently prise them out and slide them back into the slots in the trim.

Haha, CWARD says the air will be blue when putting the trim back - it you try putting it back by yourself it will be! After multiple rear wiper motor failures on my last Octy hatch. I found an easier way than trying to locate the trim on the hatch whilst working above your head -- get a helper to hold the hatchback steady, just a few inches from it's close position. Whilst sitting in the boot area, then offer the trim to the hatchback - far easier trying to push the trim horizontally onto the hatch rather than vertically above your head (especially if you are a shortarse like me LOL. Seriously, try it this way - I can now change a rear wiper motor from start to finish in around 15 minutes now.

Start locating the trim at the window edge, making sure the trim slides into the groves in the trims at the side of the window, then clip in the ones at the bottom of the lid. And don't forget the torx screw behind the rubber strap to finish!

Mike

Thanks for the how to Mike, the rear wiper on my Octy MK2 hatch only works intermittently and is a bit noisy so I guess the motor is on its way out. I will change it when the weather is better and report back on how I got on.

These motors are usually not in fault and are expensive fix. You can try to disassemble the motor and try to see if the axle is stuck by dirt. Try to remove it, clean it and put on some lube. The motor should work fine again for some time.

That's how i got mine fixed anyway and seems to be a problem most of the time. :)
