Yeti starting problem

Featured Replies

My 3 year old Yeti has over the last few weeks developed a problem when starting up the engine and I am seeking advice as to the reason for this problem. On 2 occasions when turning the key I heard a click as though it tried to start, I then turned the key again and both times the car started as it should. On a third occasion when trying to start the car the key turned around as it should but nothing happened what so ever. I then tried a second time and the car started ok. The cars warranty expired recently so any advice regarding this problem would be much appreciated.

It could be the connection between the battery and the starter - check the terminals on the heavy battery cables (both the earth -ve and the +ve) and on the starter (but that will be difficult to reach) or it could be the starter motor itself that is faulty.  It could be the ignition switch but not if you are sometimes getting a click from another relay or the starter solenoid.

Is the battery fully charged?  If it isn't that could cause the problem but it is starting eventually so maybe not.

I'd be checking all the connections on the battery and starter motor first, as Norry says.

Also worth checking the resting voltage of the battery.

From my experience, if your car is only just over 3 years old and has a full Skoda service history you might find the dealer amenable. Might help if you have a good relationship with them. Certainly worth asking.

Thanks for the advice regarding the starting issue. Over the next few days i will be checking what you have advised to try and rectify the problem and if still no joy i will have a word with my local Skoda dealer. Intermittent faults can prove costly if when the car is at the garage and the car starts first time every time they will charge for fault not found.
