Anyone got the 1.4tdi 80bhp?

Featured Replies

I'm currently looking to get a new car for the wife, and have just seen that skoda now go a 1.4tdi in 80 bhp rather than 75bhp.

Has anyone here got one, and if so can you comment on its performance and driving manners.

Thanks

Actually they Do it in 70BHP, 75BHP and 80BHP. I Cant really see the point in 5BHP Spaces :) but the 80bhp does 0-60 in 13.8 Seconds and Goes onto 105MPH and the 70BHP does 0-60 in 15.6 Seconds and 104 MPH. So I Can only assume the difference at higher speeds is negligable, but you'll get a bit of extra kick.

I Have driven a 75bhp 1.4 PD and It goes very well. Has excellent pickup and It is quite strong, but it gets a bit slow on the motorway in places I Think even my 1.4 8v would still be accelerating. I Found it to be rather crude, especially being only 3 cylinders. The turbo is very noisy as well, especially around town.

My dad has the PD 1.4 in polo it goes very well alot better than petrols in the same small engine class I would recomend it to anybody,I would have one myself.

I have had 2 1.4 Tdi polos' and they were both excellent pullers from start, but ran out of steam pretty quickly (both sport spec but unmodified ) but for commuting and the odd pootle they were ideal, regularly running close to 60 mpg and ultimately reliable. The only drawback where I live is the crap main dealer aftersales service !

I thought the 70 replaced the old SDI and the 75 was upgraded to 80 (i.e. the 75 doesn't exist as new now).

I had an old shape Polo with the 75, great pull, utterly reliable, very economical, nice interesting noise but ran out of steam by about 3000rpm. Pretty narrow power band; didn't get going til a little over 2000rpm, but keep it there and you can make good progress.

The 3 cyl engine uses a 120 degree cank to remains pretty smooth unlike the shaky old Vauxhall 3 cyl engines.
