mk 2 2.0 pd engine dies when car is stopped

Featured Replies

i was looking to buy a used ocatavia mk2 2.0 dsg 140bhp model with 65000kilometres in the ode. took a test drive for about 20kms and the car performed amzingly well. after that i stopped at a red light and the engine juat died on me. cranked it and it refused to start. i shifted the dsg in nuetral mode and cracked it again and it got started but this time check engine lighy came on. again i stooped at a crossimg and engine died , this time it did not start i cracked it few times and there was smoke coming out of engine bay. on looking inside engine bay the smoke was coming from below the engine bay. car got towed away and now it is with its owner. i just want to know wht could have gone wrong? the car was in top shape serviced and maintained properly and im still keen to buy the car. so pls shed some light on this problem.

It could be a number of faults without reading the ecu codes would just be guessing. If I was in your shoes I would walk away and look at other cars and think myself lucky that I had not bought it.

Seconded.

it could be any thing. Personely I'd do a runner with your money in your pocket

WOW.....I can't believe you are still considering buying this duff car......run as quick as you can and be thankfull that you did not buy it :whew:

Hopefully you've got the message by now, but just in case.........................Find another.

Had a talk wid owner. he said he just jumped started the car and its going well an strong. no error codes were detected. it was a normal battery problem he said. i just want to know is it possible for a car to come to a complete halt if battery gets down or gets discharged?

i know a case where my brother's vw jetta tdi came to a halt in traffic when its battery got blown up in engine bay. the battery was replced and simce thn car is running fine and strong.

Run away.....Quickly.... why would you even consider it

Be thankful the problem happened before you paid for the car.

Smoke from the engine bay is not battery related and unlikely it went flat when running as the alternator would keep it topped up.

Lies to shift the car on. Don't be stupid and buy it.

Well yes, but most exploding batteries are caused by being over-charged due a faulty alternator control box, so either your brother's been dead lucky or it will happen again. Other than "coming to a halt" do his car's symptoms actually match the one you were test driving?

I mean, you asked for advice, and there's 6 people say to not buy that car.

It's clear youre desperate for the car. But there's zero point buying one that you'll have to replace within 6 months.

A better one will come along, it always does.

Why would you want to buy a car that could not even survive a simple test drive!!!

Internet troll?

Well you came here asking for advice, you was given the advice but it was not the answer that you wanted so you go ahead and buy the car and I hope that you will be very happy together. bye bye
