Laurin & Klement

Featured Replies

I am looking at buying the 52reg Laurin & Klement Hatchback. It has the 110bhp Tdi engine, and it is in black magic. It has all the Beige leather. It has all the usual Laurin & Klement extra's such as cruise control. I want to know what people think of this car.

I had the Elegance 110bhp Estate, in diamond silver but unfortunatly put it on its roof, with thanks to some inconsiderate lorry driver that had dropped stones on a corner.

So some feed back on this car would be very nice. I am actually looking to go and buy this car in the mornin!!!!!

Cheers,

 Chris

sounds nice..

condition is all that matters..

Its top of the range with almost every extra you can get already on it ....if the price is right and the mileage isn't too bad, sounds like a good car

but it won't fair well on it's roof either, it must be noted! so be nice to lorry drivers :)

very funny, lol!!! it has done 60,000, so on a 3 year old car, it isnt run in for a VAG diesel engine is it??? i will try to keep this one on the road!!!!

My Wifes is 2 months off 3 years old & has covered 103000 to date & she drives it hard

Absolutely fantastic car & IMO much better value for money than the new L&K. Weve had no real problems with the car, just a few little niggles. Good ones are hard to find so if its tidy grab it. Its IMO the best car Skoda ever made

Couple of things to check

Some had problems with wheel finish, look around the centre of the wheel itself & if their are small black marks investigate them closely as it might be the chrome failing (all the plastic centre caps fail but these are cheap to replace), Do the same check on the spare which should be a matching wheel

Check the service record with the owner for future reference & establish if its on variable of fixed servicing, fixed is 10000 miles, variable can be up to 30000 miles. either way the car will tell you when it needs a service.

Check both front sidelights work, the bulbs are within the Xenon unit so its a dealer job to change.

Check windscreen for chips around the edge, this is our only real criticism of the car as chips near the edge often lead to cracks, ours has just had its 3rd replacement screen, its a common problem with vag cars, my own octys had 2 screens, just worth getting the screen repaired as thats free on insurance wheras theres an excess on a new screen.

Check all the toys work, weve had no problems but I guess they would be pricey to fix, check the heated seats work, cruise works, its got heated mirrors which come on with the rear screen but dont know how you would check those unless frozen, sun roof should work on both tilt option & slide open (turn the switch left or right)

As you can see Ive been picky as I cant really fault the car & if they still made it would buy one over the new Octy, we are actually trying to find a very low mileage one.

The Estates which ours is tend to be more sought after so the hatch "should" be cheaper. For a price guide ours is worth with 103000 miles about 5000 - 5500 trade in so I guess 6500 - 7000 on the forecourt & Ive found a 12 month old estate, 130 bhp one with 9000 on for 12500 at a Skoda dealers.

If you have a few hundred to spare a Jabba remap will really make the car fly & improve the MPG (yes improve). Ours was mapped at 8000 miles & gave 164 bhp & regularly returns 50-55 mpg, nothing has broken & its still on the original clutch.

Hello

I bought a L&K in May of last year and I am a bit disappointed with the performance of the engine. Its a 2001 and with the 110bhp I was expecting more bite from the turbo. I have been through the whole exercise of cleaning the MAF and the garage has told me there is nothing wrong when they put it through the computer. But really am I expecting too much from this engine or should I have a little smile on my face when I press the throttle on the motorways of Ireland.

P.S. my clutch blew up like the Big Bang Theory on Sunday and its going to cost 500 euro to fix.

P.P.S when I examine the MAF part itself ontop I see a little diagram of what looks like a resistor with two metal prongs sticking out of the casing. Should there be a delicate wire threaded through it or is the opening at the end of the MAF the place where the exposed metal is and hence you clean that. Me I reckon I am missing this wire but please someone tell me.

Regards

Bryan

If you were missing a wire in your MAF the dealer would have found a fault in the car's ECU. You may also have found significantly reduced fuel economy.

you have an Octavia, which weighs in excess of a tonne and a half with a 110bhp turbo diesel engine.

to be honest unless your getting really low MPG and the idle is rough theres nothing wrong with the car, your expecting too much from the engine.

Quite nice cars - I have a firend who has a 130 L&K. It is modified and has done 101,000 miles in the two years from new. It has also done a few trackdays. No mechanical failures, averages about 47 mpg overall.

He is happy with it.
