Steering wheel buttons < > failure

Featured Replies

I have found one failure with steering wheel buttons - left side < > buttons don´t work. If I make hard reset to Columbus head unit, then buttons work approx 2-3 times and that's all. Does this fault is similar to somebody? Do I have to decode with VCDS or update SW? My Columbus SW is 40XX and car is Superb (2012).

I believe, the problem is more electrical matter, rather not just cleaning the buttons or buying new ones. Seems like there is some malfunction between buttons and head unit communication. I haven't find solutions to solve it.

I appreciate any advice you may have.

Is it just the < > buttons? Do the volume button/s work okay?

It sounds like it may be a gateway issue with the Columbus, have you had any software updates done previously, or do you now the history of the unit?

I've a few units here which have failed an update on the Gateway stage, and they display somewhat similar tendencies which can be rectified by a reset, until the next time they decide to misbehave. Does the unit turn itself off periodically when driving?

It's only < >, all other buttons and volume scroll work well. I bought this car one year ago and it seems, that previous owner had retrofitted Columbus. I haven't done any software updates (only updated map) and I don't know history of the head unit (3T0 035 680B ). There is no malfunction with my Columbus and it will not turn itself off when driving.

You might try a software update or reinstall then, but if the unit is misbehaving then it might make it either worse or better. No way of knowing until you try it I reckon.

The fact that you can make the buttons work via a reset points to it being something along the lines of missing communications between the head unit and the car.
