new tyre needed for the front/ possible EDL damage ?!?

Featured Replies

Sorry for all these threads, i'm no post whore honest :D

I fitted my 312mm brakes today and it was all going so well until i saw this :thumbdwn:

My question is can i get away with just one new tyre or do i have to buy a pair ?

I know i should ideally replace the pair but the other tyre only has 20k miles on it and approx 7mm of tread left

Would i cause damage to the EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) if i ran one new tyre one 20k miles old ?

Not sure how the EDL works i.e. only when the ECU tells it too or runs all the time but cuts in only when needed ?!?

Many thanks in advance for all your help guys

You might get away with just changing one......

Change the damaged one for new.

Get the garage to swap the tyres on your spare with the good other front one.

(Assuming the spare is new, and it is the same size as your alloys)

should be fine swapping just the damaged tyre, but get it done TOMORROW! Looks bloody dangerous!

Bet you're glad you did your brakes today! That's 3 things you've found while it was up on the ramp!

I'd use the spare to get to the tyre shop , then if you can get a matching tyre just use 1 new one and the one from the spare (assuming it's unused)

A cheap fix is to put the spare tyre onto the road and have a cheapo fitted to the steel in the boot

The steel in the boot will only ever be an emergency so any tyre will do.

Thanks for the info guys but it'll be monday before i can get it sorted as the tyre place i use is shut on Sundays.

Josh - Yeah 3 things today its like having a discovery tour of my car lol :D

one new tyre fine if you choose the same make/type ct.. I did this on mine, (and had exactly the same damage by the way!) with the new tyre it never pulled under acceleration or braking, when the other wore out though, I swapped the pair and kept the legal one as a spare incase it happened again!

why not swap rear wheels/ tyres to front so if you fit 1 new tyre to rear it wont suffer :)

I think i'll be going down the route of the spare tyre on the front, new tyre to replace the knackered one and the decent tyre from the front on the spare.

Thanks for the info guys!

You have 20K miles on the other tyre and 7mm of tread left ???????

WOW !

Cheers.

RBW.

It wont do EDL any damage. EDL isnt anything mechanical, its purely electronic and technically nothing to do with the gearbox/differential.
