Hi,

I know the start/stop has millions of reasons for not to engage, but this one was new on me, and I'm just curious... so we did a long winter trip and drove in temperatures around -15C for several hours, the car was working absolutely fine (and warmed up remarkably fast btw).

Coming down the mountains the temperature rose to -1/-2C, and then at the border crossing (long queue)  I noticed the start/stop was not working (did not shut the engine down). Checked the vehicle info, and it was showing a strangely worded message saying "Operating temperature not maintained" or something similar. The car was warm, oil/water temp in the  range where they should have been (it was after more than 3 hrs of driving).

Half an hr later we did a quick stop (ignition off), and after starting the car again the message was gone and start/stop was working as usual. The external temperature was around -5/-6C IIRC - definitely colder that at the border crossing.

Does anyone know what this could be ? I'd completely understand if the s/s refused to work at -15C, but when it did not work the temperature was barely below 0 and the car was properly warmed up.

thanks,

T.

Mine was not working at an external ambient of 3C and below the other day. Once the temperature was up to 5C was working.

I was happy with that but do not know the system parameters.

I suspect that the climate requirements are too high and the engine cannot supply the warmth necessary for the climate without staying running. I also suspect that if there's a recent start, there will be a time limit before auto start & stop will kick in again.

I am just guessing, so take it as a guess, but it could be that actually the engine was too warm after coming to a stop and the fan had to kick in, hence the engine needed to be on to give power to the fan.

Hi,

I also had an odd experience with Stop/Start recently. The outside temperature was around 6C, and after an hour-long motorway drive the Stop/Start did not engage while driving through town. However, after a break of around 4 hours - plenty of time for the car to cool down - the Stop/Start was working immediately as we started our drive home.

Where exactly was your message displayed?  Was it in the maxi-dot matrix, or the Amundsen entertainment system?  If so, in which menu?   I so far haven't located any such messages.

Thanks

Mark

The display is on the entertainment system - mines is not Amundsen, and to get to the message, I press the 'CAR' button, then select 'Vehicle Status', and there's an "Info" button on the touchscreen for the messages.
