about to buy a 2007 mk2 vrs estate what to look out for!

hey guys im about to buy a 2007 vrs mk2 estate tomorrow so im hoping you guys  can tell me what to look for before i buy it

 

is there any faults that i should be aware of and check out before buying this model

 

 

i've have had a vrs mk1 before and that car was a total nightmare =/ so im hoping the second generation will be better so i wont have to send it to the garage all the time

Bodywork:

-Check for rust on the rear doors thresholds.

-Check for rust on the tailgate

 

By the looks of it, the car has been painted on the entire rear side including rear passenger door and the front passenger door. Try to find out if it has been involved in a major accident or a rollover.... Check of the doors close properly and do a bit of high speed when you test it.

 

Interior:

-Check if the central locking switch works well (must operate without force)

 

That's as much as I can tell from my experience.

Yes, the front doors look different colours to rear doors but photos can be deceptive. You need to look at closely, and from a distance, in person under natural light would be best and check for operation and panel alignment as suggested by Inex.

 

Susceptibility for water ingress along door seals / sill areas.

 

Also look for common engine problems for EA113 2.0 TFSI (search this forum or others).

 

Especially prevalent are HPFP cam follower / cam shaft damage in worst cases.

 

Timing Belt (water pump recommended) replacement is required at set intervals. You want to be confident that has been done recently or has a lot of life left.

 

Oil usage is quite common as well but hard to determine on inspection. Presumably you'll have some consumer protection.

Also, IF it has been involved in an accident and then fixed. Make sure they also put on the plastic protection panels under the wheel arches all around... They should look factory like and have no cracks, holes or improper fittings.

 

Don't look at the car in bright sunlight. See it in daylight but under a fit of shade. That's when you can truly see the difference in colors.

thanks for your answer the timing belt and waterpump has been changed out at 120.000 kilometers

I would look for a car with no obvious signs of accidents. I don't know how much they normally go for in Sweeden but it feels like it's a little too cheap. Maybe I'm wrong though...

 

I know you guys can buy cars much cheaper than we do but just for reference, I spent 65 DKK on my 2007 2.0 TDI Elegance bought privately. They go for 80-90 from a dealer.

Great car but prone to several common faults. Otherwise they go like trains. Have a good test drive and check the service history. Air Con compressors break after 5-6 years so beware if it's noisy. Switch on the AC on during the test and you shoukd have no real additional noise, if a loud drone comes from the engine compartment then it needs to be checked. G60 Teves ABS faults occur and also ABS sensors ring in wheel hubs can corrode. These faults will will throw up ABS and Traction Control yellow warning lights on the dash. At this age I would have expected these problems to have already occurred. The oil filler cap underside tends to collect a yellow/white cream like mayonaisse from condensation during the winter months if it does short journeys. Not worrying just needs to be cleaned off. It will use about 1 Litre of oil or so between services. Engine Timing belt and water pump change required every 4 years, so check it was done in 2014-2015. Rear tyres can sawtooth on the edges and makes it sound as if the wheel bearings are rumbling. The dash is a tiny bit creaky in the winter months particularly from the central air vents area. okeej i think that one is  about as cheap  as they get here in sweden there are a few with the same price but they are advertised from private owners

will be buying the new car today probably but it wont be a octavia vrs though because the dealership that owns the octavia vrs i wanted to buy  asked me to call them later when i rang  them

 

and after that they didnt answer on that entire day so it doesnt feel like a good place to buy a car if they wont even pick up the phone  on a hole day

 

the car was also registered on a private person so it wasnt registered to the company

 

and yesterday me and my girlfriend went looking att other local car companys and found a seat exeo st tsi 200hp 2010

 

that has only been driven 86000 kilometers and is in real good condition  that car is based off the audi a4 its almost identical apart from the tail lights and the front end

and its sold by the big wolksvagen skoda and seat dealership in my country sweden

I would imagine given it is a 200bhp 2.0TSI that it is the EA888 VW series engine as seen in the Octavia vRS facelift.  It is a good engine, I have one. Be aware of timing chain / chain tensioner issues and oil consumption from poor design rings / pistons amongst other things..

 

A good  dealer in your country I assume will offer some protection / exchange within a short time frame?

haha yes those extra lights will be coming off as soon as i get the car probably today :P

 

the dashboard is from the audi a4 convertible and the interior looks in really good condition smells like a new car still

and the engine is the same as in octavia vrs passat and audi a4 with 200hp

 

it has been serviced realy good always between 10.000 kilometers and 15000 kilometers 

and in my car insurance the engine will be insured also the motor electrics and other electrics up to 10 years and 120.000 kilometers

so that feels safe enough =)
