Space saver wheel newbie

Featured Replies

I could not justify a spare at £150 on a 2 year lease, but since been told if I had paid the full £150 option price and not a penny less I could of kept the wheel at the end of the lease, but then again the hassle of all that I may just look on flea bay and see what pops up for under £100 and then I know 100% it's mine to keep.

I transferred the spare wheel kit and floor mats over to my new Yeti when I changed over to petrol recently, well I say I did, actually the salesman did it for me as part of the handover :).

All fine and dandy not having a spare - until it comes to that crucial journey to catch a plane, a boat, or a train for that matter, and a long-planned holiday or business trip has to be cancelled.  I'll stick with my spare.

You are right except that now I am retired I tend to think in terms of days rather than minutes or hours! No business trips anymore (thank heavens) and we generally drive to the airport the night before our flight and stay overnight in an hotel - eliminates the stress of sitting on the M1 or M25 in traffic moving at a snails pace and worrying as the time ticks by to take off.

My philosophy now is relax and eliminate stress wherever possible. Happy days!

Well for the first time since before we moved to Llani (2003) I had a puncture today!!

However I managed to get to the tyre shop by blowing the tyre up hard, so didn't need the spare or the jelly.

Small hole probably from a nail repaired for £15.

^  Lucky you!

If anyones need it i have just taken the spare out of my yeti as i wanted the lower boot floor. So i have the spare wheel the foam and carpet for sale, however im keeping the tools for myself incase i do actualy have to change the wheel

Too true - although I have no time for Shakespeare :D

Last year I had three punctures in as many weeks, one in the wilds of Dartmoor miles from any mobile phone signal.  I'd have been stuffed without my spare.  Nowadays not only do I carry a spare - I also carry a plugging kit, a goo can and an inflator.  Paranoid or what?

I don't think the AA have trouble getting up the roads in the Highlands.  They do tend to equip their agents/patrols with vehicles appropriate to their locations.   What they do have trouble with is getting to remote places in a reasonable time, the agents/patrols being fairly sparsely scattered up there.

That always assumes, as per TruckbusUK's experience, that you can get a mobile signal when you need to call them.

Actually there are shades of Hemingway in there as well.  It feels like a sort of mash-up between "Better to have loved and lost..." and "To Have and Have Not".

How very post-modern.  Or something.

.... Or Wilde?  Tennyson?  Hemingway?  Reminds me more of visits to the barbers of my younger days - "Anything for the weekend, sir?" ;)

Who said to his wife "Look here, Betty..."

"....No help, feeling sore,

They're not made any more -

It's too late to buy a new Yeti"

Hi,  Has anyone retro fitted the spare wheel kit into a yeti that didn't have a spare wheel?  The reason I'm asking is that it looks like you have to cut the old carpet to get it out.  Also how do you tuck the new carpet under the cover under the rear seats.

Thanks for any help.

just done mine old carpet just lifted out ?

Just removed my retrofitted kit

Put the old carpet back. didnt cut it in or out.

The new carpet just slips under the carpet under the seats. I remember there are some small spikes coming up out of the floor and you press the carpet down on to them to grip and hold it in place. Its really easy there were instructions with mine but didn't need em.
