1.4 MPI Classic newbie issues, advice anyone?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have bought a 2001 Fabia Classic as a fixer upper and also as a cheap second car. Comes with a few concerns, can anyone advise?

1. Clutch biting point very high, no slip or shudder though - anything to be worried about?

2. Condensation ++ damp passenger rear carpet but on stripping the door I see the common repair has been done previously. Suggestions?

3.Drivers door central locking unit has given up so bought another and stripped down to fit. Came to the removal of the lock barrel, removed both grommets from the door but only the lower hole has a visible screw with a T5 head, the upper hole only shows the plain metal of the barrel housing. This is the most annoying of the 3.

Cheers in advance,

Steve

1) Hydraulic clutches can have a high bite, because they self adjust.

2. How far up the rear edge of the door carriers has the previous sealant repair gone?   More than half way up is necessary.

Is it both sides or only one?  Nearside can get wet from the rear screenwash connection popping, under plastic trim beneath where the seatbelt sits when not in use.

Theres some little drain hole under the bonnet near the bulkhead somewhere which clogs up with muck and leaves and stops water draining.  This causes an overflow into the passenger footwell im sure.

Once you locate it its a simple case of pushing your finger through it (small rubber flap) and then the built up water just flows straight out.  No more overflow into the passenger side.

I just cant remember where it is thats all.  Hard to spot but once you have it you will know for the future.

Edit:-

Just found this from ages ago when I learnt about the drain hole in my Fab

Over half way but a bit skimpy for my taste so maybe strip it off and do again. - I will check the rear screenwash tubing cheers.

Another cheap cure for the condensation is the wardrobe dehumidifiers from Poundland.

Since putting one in, my car hasn't been misty at all...
