What goes in there?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Exploring every inch of my new Octy mkI yesterday, I naturally got into the boot to look under the carpet and check the spare wheel...

I have the wheel - Full size, so very nice. Inside that I have a styrofoam tray with a jack, spanner, screwdriver, locking wheel nut tool and a nut cap removal tool - There are some extra spaces, so I'm wondering what I'm missing, if anything?

Also, behind the wheel is another shaped styrofoam tray with empty spaces - Most look about the right size for a motorcycle battery - Am I missing anything from these?

Thanks,

Tasky.

When you say 'full sized' do you mean the same size as the other 4 wheels on the car or just not a space-saver? If you are lucky the last owner may have invested in a real full-sized wheel/tyre as a spare.

It's another complete wheel, as in not a space-saver, as in another matching alloy wheel with tyre.

It seems to be standard spec for L&K trim, according to Parkers.

I'm just wondering what all the empty spaces in the styrene surrounds were for?

Removable tow hitch is one item

most have a full size wheel as fitted (so will be alloy if car has alloys) as standard

So what goes in the bigger sectioned-off styrene insert behind the wheel?

Looks like a number of boxes for specific things...?

Do you have a photo?

I'll have to get one tonight.

It's the bit that sits between the wheel and the bumper, under the boot carpet. Front end is shaped around the wheel, back end is square, velcro patches on the underside.

It's on p.183 of the A4 OctaviaTour manual in the forum links, fig 165, if that helps?

Like the boxy styrene shapes in this:

That tray is just for storage of your own bits mainly - so stuff like spare bulbs, spare water - or as usual in mk1 octavia vRS - SPARE COILPACKS :D

Also it's probably a generic VAG part, so on other makes they might have uses for the other cut-outs ?

Rgr - Kinda what I was planning anyway, if there wasn't something specific.

Coils that bad, huh?

Guess I'd better learn how to fix them roadside...

only if you have a 1.8T, don't think you'll find them on the tdi ;)
