Hand Brake problem?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just after a bit of information on a problem I seem to have, 2 month old Superb Technology edition and seems to have a strange intermittent fault.  Scenario is as follows:

Stop on an incline, auto hold comes on as expected, manually apply electric handbrake, put box in neutral and release the clutch, handbrake releases and car rolls away, does not do it all the time but is not a good feature if it is intended.  I suspect there is a sensor in the gearbox to tell the ECU it is in neutral and that this is faulty.  Any ideas?  Before I take it in.

Make sure you come to a full halt on the brake. I found that you need to push the brake pedal a ittle harder to ensure the hold works. I normally feather off the brake on stopping so you don't get the jerk on stopping and the car did not see this as a time to apply the parking brake. I never once use the manual brake on my loaner.

You say "manually apply electric handbrake"

You dont need to manually do anything..

Make sure the auto hand brake is enabled, and then when you come to a stop, press the foot brake, you will then see a GREEN handbrake symbol appear..  when this green light is on, the car handbrake is on and the car will not move regardless of in gear, or netural..

The handbrake will disengage if you select a gear and lift the clutch up an inch, but if you set off normally the car will not roll.

When you are parking, press the footbrake and the green symbol will appear, turn engine off and it will change to red (hand brake auto comes on and leave car in gear as good practice.)

Then when you next get in the car, start engine, select gear and drive... you dont have to press anything.

Hope this helps

OK I know how the system works or should work, but surely if you manually apply the handbrake after stopping then it should remain on and not release when in neutral and you let the clutch pedal up?  As stated this is intermittant and most times it works as expected and does not release.  The reason I suspect the neutral snesor is; I did a test today when the fault was on and the results were, coasting down a slight hil in neutral applied a bit of throttle and the display said I was in 2nd gear, a bit less throttle and it changed to display 3rd gear.  This afternoon when the fault seemed to have gone I tried the same and the display rightly said I was in no gear.  Service guy says they want it in to check as it should not do this.  Perhaps someone can check their car and see if it displays the same problem, no fun when the car is rolling off the driveway towards oncoming pedestrians after applying the "parking" brake and the car is in neutral.

Diyou ever get this resolved because I have this issue after a software update.
