Superb Mk III - Diesel Turbo Lag

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 150 bhp Manual diesel Sportline. Really pleased with it but I've noticed a slight lag, even to say the slightest of holding back and feels like the engine may stall at around 1700 - 2000 rpm

I'm not heavy footed and easing up the revs it's noticeable.

Just wondered if anyone else has a similar observation....it's very slight but wondered if this is turbo lag and typical for this engine?

It wouldn't happen to be when you were going uphill?  Serious question!  I recall seeing posts on seatcupra.net wherein the engine would seem to flatspot when acceleration uphill.

I've had both the 150PS and 184PS engines (manuals) in the Leon FR and never noticed anything.  In fact I'd say 1800-2500 is when it starts to really pull.

I'd be interested to see what your dealer says as I have a 150PS Sportline on the way.

Mine does the same, I understand it occurs when the EGR valve closes as the revs rise and is a normal characteristic of the engine.  I feel it most when accelerating off a humpback bridge on my commute.  Either it's improved with mileage or I've got used to it; anyway it doesn't bother me any more.

Thanks both. I've also noticed it more apparent when pulling away and turning down a hill for instance, just feels like described, a slight flat spot.

One of the guys I work with has an A4 also on a 66 plate and has told me this morning his does the same - same engine

Quite common on VWG cars, seems to be when the car goes 'light' over bridges and bumps etc been mentioned several times on various forums http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=249492.0

There has been quite a few threads on this now. Seems like its just a characteristic of the 150 engine due to the EGR set-up
