Warranty Problems

Featured Replies

Hi All, My first post and need your advice. My 2014 Superb is still covered under warranty but I'm having problems with regard them replacing my tail-light unit. With the damp cold weather it has started to mist up inside with condensation developing inside the lens. Originally my supplying dealer said it would be covered under warranty, but after a conversation today Skoda Warranty have said they will not cover it because it's a known fault due to ventilation and if they were to replace it, it would only happen again. My supplying dealer has said there is nothing they can do. Any ideas what I can do next ? Thanks

How bad is it? Light misting is acceptable (it is even mentioned in the manual).

Condensation (water droplets forming) or standing water is not.

A picture would really help here.

However ultimately if Skoda UK say no then unfortuantly the buck stops with them.

Bear in mind that your warranty is an enhancement of your statutory rights, not a replacement. If its that bad, i.e. not fit for purpose, then you could sue the dealer that you bought the car from. I did this with another car brand (and the manufacturer and HP company) and it got settled quickly.

Thanks for the advice, I have tried attaching photos but keep getting they're too large. Update from a conversation I have had with the service manager today is that since February 2016 Skoda UK have dismissed all Warranty claims for lamps either headlamps or tail-lamps in my case. They say because of the new LED technology the headlamp lens does not heat up like halogen bulbs would and use the term inadequate ventilation for the reason for this. I am awaiting a call from customer services but will take legal advice if I need to. I purchased the car from a dealership hoping I would get a better service obviously Skoda UK have different standards and to have to be told that condensation inside the lamp lens is normal and to live with it is not what I expect .

Lowey, is your condensation not simply vapour on the lens but actual droplets forming and "flowing" to the lower areas of the lens because moisture is common but as Silver 1011 stated above there is a difference.

I bought a brand new Citroen in 2004 and every month it had its period pains and a recovery truck and a few days off the road.....Citroen paid each time but wouldnt refund me for the van

... it's a known fault due to ventilation and if they were to replace it, it would only happen again.

There may well be inadequate ventilation that is causing this. But that seems like an admission that they provided inadequately ventilated lights?

I mean, slap my dangly bits to wake me up but it sounds like this could be translated as "We are refusing to replace them because they are recognised as being faulty and the lights we would replace them with are faulty too - so yah boo, go away...we fart in your general direction."...!?

I have LED rear lights and no problems - but I park the car outside. Are they saying that its your problem because you are parking the car in an area (i.e. garage) with inadequate ventilation? Driving it into Saunas or swimming pools?

That is exactly what the service manager has said to me, That even if they did replace the lamp it would only happen again. They recognise the fault and use the term inadequate ventilation for why it occurs.

Well then the lights aren't fit for purpose and therefore nor is the car. Take it back and ask for a refund. Extreme perhaps but I'm pretty sure they'll fix your lights.

This is acceptable...
