2017 MY - Engine and gearbox changes?

Featured Replies

Hi all, picked up my 2017MY Scout 184 DSG on Monday and noticed it feels very different to my old 65 plate car.

The car feels very flat indeed, no acceleration at all unless I really work it, do these cars have a running in period and will it loosen up as it feels sluggish? I've noticed that driving in Sport mode on the DSG really helps but the mapping of the gearchanges is very different to the old car, it no longer revs really high in Sport like the old one did but does improve response from a standstill.

I also find it really hard to get it to move in reverse if cornering at the same time, really hard to get it to move up my drive! Feels like I'm fighting against the brakes and have to give it a lot of 'gas' so wondering if that's the Haldex 4x4 system that I can feel resisting, again due to newness?

Not had a brand new car before so perhaps everything just needs to loosen up?

Any thoughts/advice?

Give it a few hundred miles yet.

I don't think there are any significant mechanical changes between 2015 & 2017 MY, the engine & gearbox should be still the same.

I guess its likely there were software & calibration changes for the engine & gearbox controller which could change the shift pattern etc.

There were a couple of posts in another thread at the start of the winter about problems with the 4x4 where the haldex system was not working properly & running only in 2wheel drive mode.

As you've only just collected your car you could give it a few days to make sure its not just the new car placebo effect but I wouldnt wait too long to mention it to the dealer & get them to take a quick look if you still feel the same.

Mine is crap when going uphill round a corner and the motor is cold. Have to poke it too hard, in my view. Fine when warm though.

the 150TDI I had in the summer as a rental was awful from a standstill. Almost like they'd mapped torque out to stop wheelspin. Push the pedal harder... but even that wasn't always an option.

I have a 66 plate 184 and it goes very well, came out of a Vrs and seems very similar, bit slower as its an estate but response is fine and if your floor it takes of fairly sharp

Could yours be a bit tight? Ive had similar with a leon ST. One flew out of the box and the other took 3500 miles to feel the same

I also have a Scout just like yours, and in the initial period it behaved exactly the same as yours when reversing. After 3000 km, now it`s fine.
