Citigo squeaking when shifting into first?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Long time lurker.

I've tried to search for this one but haven't come up with anything concrete.

I've noticed recently that when I shift into first I hear a 'squeaking' noise coming from the vicinity of the gear shifter, as if it is rubbing up against something (this is during the actual shift, not before/after).

The car has just had its 40k service with the local garage and they didn't pick anything up. I'm wondering if it is worth taking the car back for them to have a look or if this is one of those inevitable/normal noises for the citigo?

Just take the gaiter off and have a nosey and see if it's catching on anything, also check the ball joint is all greased up :)

Thanks for this.

I had a nose and the ball joint looks well greased (garage applied new grease during the service a few weeks ago), can't see it obviously catching on anything.

The same issue seems to be described here, but no agreed solution: http://www.upownersclub.co.uk/forum/gearbox-problem_topic7433.html

I'll probably take it back to my local garage to have a look next week.

Took the car back to the garage that did the service in the end, they re greased the ball joint etc and the squeak is gone now.
